StarCraft 2?

Well I've picked up the game (nor al edition fyi) and I'm about half way through ish, now. Just done the few choices pop up in terms of the colonists and the ghosts, don't want to go into too much detail in case someone hasn't got there yet.
Gotta say I'm enjoying the game, they seem to be shaking the levels upo a bit in order to stop them getting too samey, i.e the lava overfill level adn the night fight level, both give you timers.

One thing I do miss from the original and nobody has mentioned this yet, as far as I know, is the immersion I got from being the unnamed other character. Something they have dropped, though they dropped it from WC3 first, I still miss it. It's one of the ways CC manages, imo, to be better, by balancing that immersion and hero characters.
Haven't finnihsed yet, so back to it.
Just wondering if there are any really good map packs or mods out yet, if anyone knows. I don't reckon I'll be getting into online any time soon, though I know the later I leave it, the worse it will be.

If you go online and choose custom games, you'll see that there are hundreds of custom game modes already in heavy circulation. Someone even made a Left 4 Dead map.

And you know, in the game, I'm not sure if it's clear that you are always Jimmy Raynor or not... especially since he never appears as a unit later on. I suppose it makes sense though.

Yeah but in the original game you were, well you and Jimmy was one of your troops. It's not a big thing really and as I say I was expecting it, what with WC3, doing the same thing, but still.

And thanks I will have a look after I've finnished the single, at least once

jim raynor is a unit at the end if you pick a certain branch.

I haven't got the game, but I'm enjoying watching some of the Starcraft commentary videos on YouTube and the like.

Is there a good centralised resource for these, esp. higher-level matches?

I can see why the Koreans find it quite a fun "sport" to watch. :D

GREAT answer! :techman:

Thank you; this should keep me happy for a long while. I had already found HD's and Husky's commentaries which are very much of the "colour commentary" variety (which I like), so I'm looking forward to browsing the rest of them and the other ones you've linked.

The first five minutes of this match are pretty hilarious:

That is genius. I can't believe that happened.

Also, Banshees are genius. I guess Protoss players don't like to waste money on the photon cannons.

Haha, here's another cheesy one:

Cheers. I haven't had much time to watch a lot of play though, but it's interesting to see these games. :)

Okay, got my copy and installed it tonight, but I'm still a little unclear on things. I haven't yet been able to actually play the game, and I get the impression the launcher is trying to download the current patch. The thing is, it downloaded several things but I'm not sure if this means several variations of the patch, or what. I don't have time to fiddle with it any more tonight.

But I'll admit I'm a little confused, and any advice would be appreciated - do you have to download this stuff just to get to the game itself, or should that be more readily available?

Edit: Never mind. Ignore the old fogey in the thread...

That is awesome. :guffaw:

The Protoss player shouldn't have set the rally point of his zealots immediately into the Terran mineral line. Could have got a couple warped in first and then used them to block the exit ramp and worked his way in, to stop the SCVs fleeing.

Base-swap was another option though...

Sentries maybe a better option?

I'm been enjoying a few IdrA matches recently. Gotta love the rage!

This one is cool ;)

Sentries would work, but you need an observer as a detector if you don't put down canons. You probably want to have some form of detectors anyway since both Terran and Zerg have a way to get into bases with cloaked units.

One odd thing I have noticed with my copy is that the unit portraits aren't animated, but all of the other animations in the game - cinemas, units etc. work perfectly fine. But the portraits don't do anything when the characters speak. :p

Did you turn that option off in the settings? It's one of the things that are off in order to improve performance.

No, I haven't changed any of the default settings. I do use a laptop, but since I haven't noticed anything else odd as far as performance I can't see where such an option would have been automatically disabled.

Where is that under the options? I looked around for it earlier but didn't see a toggle for the portraits.

I can't remember... maybe under the advanced video options? I'll try to check whenever I boot up the game next.

Afaik the game actually scans your system and sets the options at what it thinks will run best on your system. If the portraits are off it's because they don't think your game will run smoothly with them on.
