Notably missing characters that would be cool in the next movie.

I don't see why Rand can't a yeoman AND an action girl. As long as she has a reason to be at Kirk's side she can get in on the action. I find the obsession with senior officers in Trek to be a bit tiresome. I like the idea that Rand can be an enlisted crewman and still be a main character.

My top 4 choices would be

1 Janice Rand
2 Janet Colt
3 Christeen Chapell
4 No 1

The introduction of Chapel as a foil for Dr. McCoy would be fun. Or perhaps Rand to provide some "look-but-don't-touch" humour for Kirk. But really, it doesn't matter who they introduce as long as the movie is good.

RT.

Dr. M'Benga. Hell, why didn't we see a young medical intern M'Benga studying on Vulcan on XI?
Using the age of the actor who played him in the Original Series as a guide, M'Benga would have been 18 years old in 2258 and just beginning his course of pre-med study. His internship on Vulcan wouldn't happen yet for several years, and may now (due to the non-existence of Vulcan) take place instead at the University Medical Center of Vulcanis Lunar Colony. (The parents of newborn Tuvok will be his next-door neighbors, and his friendship with them will be an influence in their eventual decision to steer Tuvok toward Starfleet Academy.)

So I've been wondering, much has been established about Tuvok, canonically speaking. We know his race is long-lived, and he was alive in the 23rd century. And since Abrams and his cohorts are saying they'd like to provide various links to the other Trek series, this could be a perfect link to Voyager. Have a scene where a young M'Benga is studying. While he's studying, Tuvok's parents walk by with a little baby Tuvok. You know what would make this scene even better? Have Tuvok's dad denouncing leading zeroes as "illogical and unnecessary." The potential is awe-inspiringly awesome.

Discuss.

Yeah, I decided to change it up a little.

Excuse me..I have to scrap whats left of my mind, it has been BLOWN sir !!!

No matter what , this has been added to my personal cannon as a scene in the upcoming film.

I'd like to see carol marcus (probably not doctor yet) getting randomly killed by the movies antagonist

nuSpock: As per new Starfleet Regulations, we are required to have a Tactical/Security Officer on the bridge. Thus, I would like to introduce you all to Ms. Janice Rand

That would be cool. I don't like the "Yeoman" thing. You can't make clerical work look cool and would give us an ACTION GIRL in the movie.

That's be nice, but what about Cupcake?

Let's kill off Cupcake!

I think a female security chief/tactical officer on the bridge would be a plus in my opinion, and get her some trousers for crying out loud! This was one of my suggestions for Orci and Kurtzman for quite some time.

Commodore Matt Decker
Christine Chapel
Janice Rand
Yeoman Colt
Lee Kelso
Gary Mitchell
Number One
Kevin Riley
Lt Kyle
Arex
M'Ress
(They could finally make Lt Xon canonical!)

Oliver Platt as Mudd is an inspired idea. yeah, they need more chicks to balance out the cast. Chapel is a must for the next one. Probably Rand, too if they can find something interesting for her to do. Was watching WNMHGB last week and thought it might make a good story basis for the next movie, thereby allowing Mitchell and Dehner to appear. As much as some of you will hit me over the head, a reference to an aged T'Pol wouldn't be bad as a loose tie to Ent.

I wouldn't mind that at all. I'd like a few subtle nods to the other Trek series. Not too blatant. I laughed at the Archer and Porthos references in XI.

I don't know if it counts, since they are not specific characters, but I would like to see the Xindi helping the Vulcans, since they, too, know how it is to be home-planet-less.

And, wouldn't it be cool a scene like this at the end of the XII movie?

A federation starship finds some debris of an unknown ship in federation space, destroyed by unknown fire. They beam the debris aboard for examination, and the captain arrives at the scene to see them up close. A crewmember picks a debri and say "Captain... This is Earth!". We see the Captain seeing the debri puzzled, and then we see the debri on-screen. It has the Dagger-Through-The-Earth symbol of the Mirror Universe. The end credits fall.

As of specific characters, There is no Star Trek (TOS era) for me without Nurse Chapel and at least an appearance of Yeowman Janice Rand... ;)

And, of course, Mudd!

I see a Rand appearance going like this:

NuEnterprise puts in at Starbase. Kirk & Scott take some shore leave. Cut to bar with loud group raising some hell. Kirk notices young, attractive blond starbase crewman sitting quietly on far side of bar. Kirk turns on the charm and wanders over. Chat, chat, flirt, flirt, cut to Rand's quarters. Hot and heavy bed scene. Next morning Rand is awakened by annoying buzzer. Notices Kirk is gone. Wrapping herself in a sheet she opens the door. Starbase crewman hands her a padd containing her orders to report to Enterprise as Kirk's new Yeoman.

Mott the barber should be in the next movie and be a major player in the story. If he is not, I'm boycotting it!

Lol - I love Rand to pieces but I think having two onboard 'romances' might be too distracting for the sci fi plot. I certainly think there is space for her to be assigned as Kirk's yeoman as long as she sticks to him like glue, including in the action scenes. A gun-toting, martial arts-trained yeoman could work well. A few uncomfortable looks can convey their attraction to the grown ups without causing any drag on the wider plot. If they feel the need to kill somebody off, I seriously hope they don't treat Janice as a dispensable 'main' character in her first appearance.

I always liked Kevin Riley, if he hasn't been mentioned already. As long as he doesn't sing.

Oooh yes! Kevin Riley - especially if he sings! And goes delusional and holes up in engineering, banning others from eating ice cream...

How the hell could nuRiley possibly barricade himself in that engine room? He'd pretty much have to seal off the entire engineering hull, and the shuttlebay to stop people getting in .

well, if they use plot points of The Conscience of the King I'm all for it...as long as he DOES sing!
I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen should be the main theme of the next movie

At least he'll have plenty of fun brewing Guinness down there.

It would be cool if they took a pre-existing character and killed them in the opening credits of each movie, like they did with the special guest stars on Police Squad.
