Thanks for the info. I'm vaguely thinking about breaking the habit of a lifetime and actually doing some exercise, given that from August or so I'll no longer be working for anyone so will have the time to do it without feeling robbed of precious time off. Running seems a good option, being free, easily scalable from a very slow/short start, and won't cause me to put on bulk (important, because I don't want re-tailoring costs). I do worry about the impact stress of running though, so the idea of finding a good pair of shoes that won't lead to me fucking up my joints and promotes good alignment is important to me.

^Most real running shoe stores are happy to evaluate your gait and let you try on a few pairs for a few runs to see what is best for your running lifestyle. The extra you might pay to feed and clothe your neighbors and their families is more than compensated for by the confidence of the right fit and shoe for you and a lifetime of truly happy running. Best of luck!

Incidentally, got a pair of Mayflies for my son - he likes the feeling of almost running barefoot - I like to feel the weight of my shoes because I'm a little odd or Protestant - it cannot possibly good for me if it doesn't task me a little bit, eh?

Today i ordered two books from Book Depository

"Black Seconds" by Karin Fossum - its a Norwegian crime novel.

"Heaven: Our Enduring Fascination with the Afterlife" by Lisa Miller. Someone at LibraryThings recommended this book and the fact that one of the chapters is titled "Is Heaven Boring" clinched it for me.

I received a decent amount of cash for my birthday so I've been horrible and buying clothes for myself. We had to cut our vacation short so I wasn't even able to wear the first dress out. :(

This one looks frumpy, but it's actually quite fitted and flattering on me (though perhaps too short to wear most places!)

And a new casual jacket. Unfortunately this jacket was used in the movie Twilight so everyone has been swarming to get it. I swear I just thought it was cool!

Thanks. I don't even know if there's a real running shoe shop in town, but I guess there must be. I'll look around once I get a chance.

I MUCH prefer this dress to the first one (red & orange is not a combination that enthuses me). This one is very pretty. Drapery always looks nice.

I think they all look nice. The one you say looks frumpy there may, but having seen similar outfits on other people I know, that can be deceptive and they look good when worn:)

My latest purchase was the JAG Season 8 dvd (just released in the UK) and the "Still Flying" book:)

My latest purchase hasn't been purchased yet.

It will be a Barnes and Noble wireless-only Nook for $149, plus the extended warranty and tax. Since I sold my Sony Reader to pay for it, the Nook will only be costing me the warranty and tax :D

I bought a huge card for a buddy in my platoon who's getting married tomorrow. Will be wearing my formal dress uniform during the ceremony and the party. :)

I like red and orange together under the right circumstances. They tend to be colors that look good on me, when the right shades. And I'm surprised you like the second dress! I was a little disappointed with the construction of the dress, as the layers can, well, lay a bit funny. But it's one of the few dresses I've found with sleeves that are completely decent on top.

I agree. I don't think it's frumpy at all. I think it's lovely--but a bit too short.

It is short. I was shocked! I mean, I had read reviews and I knew it would be short and I don't mind a short dress every now and then because my legs are actually something I like about myself. But I thought, "I'm 5'1", how short will it really be?" Yeah ... no one taller than me should be buying this dress.

Aww, thank you. You're totally right, clothes can be deceptive and need to be worn (with the proper fit) to really be able to tell. I've gotten more adventurous with clothes lately and my time working at the bridal shop showed me that a dress could really surprise you!

Bought a cute top at Kohl's, and an eye pencil and a small rollerbottle of Juicy Couture perfume at Sephora. Wanted to buy more, but I was good. :(

"Black Seconds" by Karin Fossum - its a Norwegian crime novel.

that book is bloody fantastic. :techman:

Coming across Karin Fossum last year was a wondrous find for me. I have read four of her novels so far. "Calling Out for You" (also known as The Indian Bride) was one of the saddest novels I have ever read. The character of Errki in "He Who Fears the Wolf" was one of the most interesting and sympathetic portrayals of a mentally ill person I have come across in crime fiction.

Pre-ordered the new version of Ken Burns' Baseball boxed set (this time it includes the "10th Inning" episode) which will come out in October, a week or so after 10th Inning airs.

Also pre-ordered 10th Inning in a standalone Blu-Ray version (unfortunately the whole set isn't available in BR :( ).

Now, how did I know you were going to say that?

The same way you know the sun's coming up in the east every morning? :D

I heard Ken Burns on the radio this afternoon. Actually stayed in the car in the lot to hear the end of the segment. Fascinating.

I paid for insurance and tags for the 34 Ford today. In related news, I may have found an interesting side business - I'm driving a bride and her new husband from their wedding to the reception this weekend and the money offered was shocking for less than an hour's effort.

Novels!

The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K. Le Guin
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett
All the Weyrs of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
