TOS original or Remastered, which is canon?

people can say what they want about the final result (it's subjective after all)

No IT'S NOT!!! The new FX ADD MUCH MORE than anyone can ever claim they take away!!!!
Okay, nostalgia, I get that, but hey, young minds, fresh ideas, can we not be tolerant?

;)

Uh, I'd like to go ahead and distance myself from this guy.

Dude, if you read my previous posts you'd know that it's all basically interchangeable. The producers included both on the BD for a reason. It's literally all good.

I'd vote for TOS over Remastered: Remastered reflects Mike Okuda's opinion, which should be given some weight but isn't law.
Then again, I disregard some of the bits of TOS, so it doesn't really matter. When trying to create a consistent view, sometimes two bits of information cannot be reconciled to each other, so one of them must be declared an error.

I consider both the Original & Remastered TOS to be canon. Some of the remastered episodes have been enhanced with more interesting details, like "The Way To Eden".

We also pushed very, very hard to include the original visual effects on the Blu-ray release. Fortunately, the folks at CBS were supportive of this.

I for one appreciate that very much, Mike. It was one of my fears that any new releases would be new effects only, and the original artistry would be lost.

Time for a curve ball. Mike, if your team had more time and more dollars, what changes would we have seen in the remastered work.

Note: emboldened mine.

You mean what changes would they like to have made in regards to the new f/x. The series had already been remastered.

Hallelujah! Someone has a clue! :)
I think we all have a clue actually, and understand what you're talking about. I certainly do.

However, the only controversy that exists (for some) between TOS Original and TOS-R are the new f/x. No one disputes the remastering as far as I know. So when people debate one over the other, it's the f/x that are being debated, and everyone understands the discussion, so TOS-R has become shorthand for the new f/x as well as the remastering, even if it is technically incorrect. It's just easy.

So we aren't clueless or stupid, just lazy I guess.

Suggest a new, more proper but still simple & easy to use term, and maybe we'll adopt that. Doubt it, but at least you can say you tried. :)

Why believe the Aurora looked like a Tholian ship with Starfleet nacelles stuck on by Klingon battlecruiser wings?

A little OT, but is that part about the "Klingon battlecruiser wings" true? Is that what they really used?

Now that I think about it, there is a stylistic similarity, but I wasn't sure if you meant they literally reused the battlecruiser components, or were just exaggerating a little to make a point.

I'm thinking about drawing this ship sometime, but haven't studied it that closely, so I was just wondering. Thanks.

^The Aurora was the Tholian ship model kitbashed with parts from the AMT Enterprise and Klingon battlecruiser model kits.
