Each and every episode could begin with a steamy slow mo shower love scene between the captain and the girlfriend (different one every week) when suddenly there's a emergency call from the bridge ...

No. I would watch it! ... But then - I watch Mexican game shows.

But, the different girlfriend every week has already been done!
A different lover, after every commercial break (with absolutely NO explanation)
    has not.
This is the true, logical progression. Do you not agree? ;)

Aside from this, I would like to see a truly alien captain. Maybe, one of the Horta's children. In place of the captains chair, a large PADD would be installed in the middle of the bridge. All commands could be burned onto it: "NO KILL I", "YES KILL THEM", "YES WARP 7", "NO EARL GRAY", "YES COFFEE YEOMAN", ... The part would be "actor proof", saving the production a lot of money. :D

Instead of a Captain who looks differently, In all honesty I'd like to see a Captain who acted and thought differently. Manifested a truly unique cultural background.

This is actually unreasonable, while a second billing character could have this (Spock, Data, Kira, 7of9), the Captain has to be graspable by the viewers.

I want one like all the previous captains: a performer who's "kind of" known in certain niches but not extremely famous or over-exposed. Actually, at the time they each began their Trek shows, Scott Bakula was the most famous to the general public.

Trek works best when you have good, solid journeyman actors who form an ensemble rather than a "name" actor with a supporting cast.

Speaking of Michael Emerson, what about Naveen Andrews?

^I vote yes. Especially if it's Donatra or another Romulan.

    Adam Baldwin = Cardassian

Zach Levi = freakishly tall Vorta

    The story writes itself. ;)

Garrett Wang. Great actor and would help facilitate Asian actors being cast as protagonists in the mainstream. (As well as those whose heritage hails from the middle east. Aside from Omid Djalili, though, I can't think of anyone off the top of my head; however, he's... not really captain material. xD)

Adam Baldwin as a Cardassian... dear lord, he'd be intimidating.

I'm changing my vote to Rainn Wilson. I could see him pulling off a Jellico-type hardass captain quite easily. Particularly if the ship gets between a bear and her cubs.

^ Surely Rainn Wilson and John Kracynzki (sp?) as feuding first officers; Wilson's character would be forever finding his phaser in a bowl of jelly or walking round with 'Kick me!' written on his back in Klingon.

    Steve Carell for the captain.

Robert Knepper WAS on Star Trek TNG.

Look up the cast of "Haven" and prepare to shudder.

I know he played an Admiral in TNG, but I'd actually love to see Terry O'Quinn from LOST as a captain - he was just so damn good

I think hes great. But I think they will think hes too old. He turns 58 this year, and hes not even a "young" 58. He was only 41 in TNG and is actually slightly younger than Jonathan Frakes, but looked and seemed much older, which being bald often does. I certainly would like to see him in a Trek show in some capacity or another though.

Oh yeah, he's far too old, for sure. I'm just imagining Captain Locke and how awesome that would be...
