I remember being more caught up in the whole "Wow, this'll be the first time in a long time that no new Trek is on the air" to notice the plot.

However, it didn't take long after the NX-01 flew off towards that nebula for me to start analyzing and picking apart. I think the thing that bugged me, TNG fan that I am, is that this final send-off to the NX-01 and Archer, and possibly to Trek as a television program (as I thought at the time) was used to focus on Riker resolving inner conflict during The Pegasus, which, while good, isn't exactly a banner episode for TNG.

I'd still celebrate, if only to show that the memory of Trek, and the spirit and reasons I watched it, are still there.

That said, I think it was an okay episode, as long as I accept that it took place in the holodeck.

    No.

Like when they got back to earth from the expanse.

Suddenly....THEY ALL WENT BACK IN TIME. WITH ALIEN NAZI'S.

    Epic.

Anyway, the last ep I kind of liked to be truthful. It wasn't any better or worse then the other ok eps that I did enjoy. I think I liked it mostly because Shran was in it. Shran was the only character I cared about what happend too.

I was disappointed that we never got to hear this so-called time alerting speech that Archer /had/ to be there for. I think It would of been better if Archer died and Tucker lived.

I realize you're too young/new to remember the NOT. DEAD. Revolution, so allow me to reiterate:

^^ It was a rebellion by some Trip fans to the idea that TATV's holodeck recreation might be historical fact. Because if it wasn't, then Trip might not be actually dead. And some folks made a few (hundred) avatars to support the notion. A while later, we found out that Pocket Books editor Margaret Clark was thinking along the same lines.

Hey JiNX, do you still have your webpage o' NOT.DEAD. avatars?

Personally, I wouldn't have liked it if Archer died either, if the circumstances had been as structurally dopey as they were for Trip's death.

Oh I see. Thanks for filling me in. I went and wiki'd Star Trek: Enterprise. I wouldn't of been "too young" for that but I am new to the Trek world.

I also noticed this well I was reading about ENT "After a run of four seasons and 98 episodes, it was the first Star Trek series since the original Star Trek to have been cancelled by its network rather than finished by its producers. " I didn't know it was cancelled or that TOS got cancelled.

That's why TOS ended with Turnabout Intruder, instead of a real "final" episode.

And The Good That Men Do is a very enjoyable book. I recommend it (and most Trek Lit).

Count me as a second person, then, who enjoyed both Enterprise and its final episode (both also in general). Trip's last appearance on the show - when he talks with Riker after his death - may actually be my favorite scene of Enterprise. That's fitting, given that most of my favorite scenes of the series involved Trip (also Phlox and Shran).

I'm with you on this. No one should have died. I kinda like the fact that Archer is still around in the early years of (the alternate) James T. Kirk, and I'm still kinda hoping that the current powers that be would throw us a "not dead" bone in one of the future movies. :)

I don't think anyone needed to die in Tatv. All good things was done right their ending with the crew playing poker together. That's how Enterprise should've ended ona high note not a depressing ending that was such a downright lousy one at that.

Nice trip down Memory Lane -- and some avs I've never seen before. ("Holograms never die." ) I liked the Forrest NOT.DEAD. avatars, very cool.

All of my ENT avs have been moved into a special album and broken down by character or subject so I can find what I want quickly (because they are the most numerous -- no surprise there, I imagine). Really works out much better. I've also been reorganizing other albums so lots of stuff I've posted here (especially in the Trip thread) are probably MIA.

I guess I was never into Enterprise enough to feel truly hurt or insulted by TATV, but I agree that it was a bad finale. Trip's death was silly and even though it was set 6 years in the future, it didn't feel like any time had really passed, which rather diminished the realism of the whole thing. And, of course, the framing device with Riker just means it can't sustain any kind of narrative momentum.

As a lot of people have said, Demons/Terra Prime would have been much more appropriate as a finale - it certainly feels more like one and in fact I'd say it's actually better than the last episodes of DS9 or Voyager, if not TNG.

OOoo I loved that avatar page, thanks!

If you could buy Season 4 that ended with Terra Prime and Archer doing the "Space.. the Final Frontier.." in the credits I would buy it. If I could scrape TATV off the disc I do own I would do it. Since I can't do any of these things I will settle for never watching it again. I've noticed my Trek love seems to make what I initially find pukey eps to be really quite good and I forget what it was I hated about it the first time.. but this has never happened with TATV.

As to the Relaunch.. well I was disappointed. I found the romulan spy thing really weird, it never sat well with me. But I read ENT relaunch and continue to do so (let me recommend the Destiny trilogy for the Erika Hernandez/Columbia story). I am very glad Trip is alive in Relaunch!

And I'll just add this bit of TATV spewing.. I loath Riker. I have always loathed him, he is my least favorite Trek person ever. To have to look at his smug face in my beloved ENT was actually painful. One long wince. I might not have hated TATV if it was a straight story with a tragedy in it but to have it made into a Riker story was disgusting.

I don't want to get too off subject but can you explain why you hate Riker so much? I don't care if you like him or not, I'd just be interested in what faults he has that can make someone hate him.

For me, I liked him for his body and the way he could lighten the mood on the screen sometimes - his smile and how he was a lady killer. etc

I found him smarmy and arrogant. That's it in a nutshell. It's real YMMV stuff though, I'm aware that many think him HOT.

(His body didn't look so great in TATV... lol)
