It's official: Thank God for Remastered!

^^ I'm not talking about enhancing existing footage. I'm talking about creating new footage that looks enhanced yet still of the era. I'm talking about something that looks like what could have been done with state-of-the-art feature film resources as was done in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Have you been able to watch the Special Edition episodes on a large HD display? The issues between the live-action footage and the CGI effects aren't as noticeable as people here are making it out to be.

Yes I have. And they're still obvious to me.

I'm sorry man, I *finally* get what you're saying. State-of-the-art era specific is what you're talking about. Trek with Kubrick influenced Trumbull expertise & cinema level bucks.

That won't happen though, as artistically excellent as that would arguably be.

But yeah, it's a dream. My dream was just better FX so the crappy old opticals didn't take me so out of the story. I got that, imperfect as it is.

Chiao!

I will give you a review if you, you know, SEND me a large HD display screen... and a bluray player...

Heh heh

As long as you all are arguing about something from 2008, who do you think will win the Democratic nomination, Hillary or Obama? Who will Republican front-runner McCain choose as his VP? I think he's gotta go with Pawlenty.

Warped9: We get it. You don't like new visual effects. But If you want people to come over to your side, showing Photoshopped 2D still images and bitching about Rossi and Okuda isn't the way. I suggest you learn a 3D animation program and do a few of your own visual effects shots (or supervise the production of some shots done by someone else). SHOW people how the effects could be done better, don't just tell them. It would certainly be time better spent than arguing in this 400-post thread, because you haven't changed anyone's mind.

I'm fine with the new effects (but I'm biased because my Vanguard station design was used). But if you don't like them, I'm fine with that too. I still have my original-version DVDs but occasionally watch the new version too. I enjoy them both. So, everyone, watch which ever version you like and allow your fellow Trekkies the same freedom of choice without bashing them for it!

When they were busy first setting up the space shots, the SFX guys asked if they should light the things realistically, to show them as actualy objects. Lucas said, of course not, they're just space ships space, it isn't real. And thus, they were brightly lit, and shown fully lit, completely counter to the way a real ship in space would be.
Can you show a source or is this another baseless hyperbolic rant?

One link should suffice, and some proof you've seen an actual real ship in space would be appreciated.

No, it won't happen now because what's done is done. But I argue that it would have been a very smart and creative way to go. I'm sure there would have still been detractors (there always are), but I don't think as many.

It would have been just fine with me, but I gotta admit, some shots of Enterprise REALLY close up, or tracking around or under her that could not really have been done back then no matter the budget are SO cool to see, and I love 'em!!!

Did someone say 'model?'

Why are the grid lines so dark? ;)
It comes painted just a shade too light, the grid lines would look better otherwise, but yo, I'm too lazy to repaint the ENTIRE thing from scratch, hull lettering & all, just to make it that extra bit perfect- I saved that kind of ridiculous slavishness for the original series E!

It was a bitch. I had to erase the seams between plastic parts. I had to thicken the secondary hull. I had to straighten the red Starfleet pennant on the secondary hull. I had to correct the skewed makings on the forward part of the bridge...

What I'm really waiting for is the long awaited 1/350 scale TOS Enterprise kit, because I can't justify spending $1200 bucks on a Master Replicas version.

If I can build it right I think I could have loads of fun with that.

I'm waiting for that as well, my Son & I will make it our ultimate Father/Son project (before he gets into his teens & hates me- hah hah, just kidding Jack, if you're reading this)!!:guffaw:
