I have to admit, if I'm a fan of SFF nowadays, it's in no small part to some of the cartoons from my day. I still think Thundercats is full of win. I miss shows like this.

I have two complete sets of this show on dvd. Way too many people were borrowing my set, so I had to get a second just for me. It's seen some pretty heavy use, this series is made of win.

Looks like they sampled a bit of Trek in there. The planet explosion looked a lot like the explosion of Praxus in STVI.

I used to love it as a kid. But as an adult, when I bought the Season 1 Part 1 DVD set, watching them back starting becoming a serious chore after about 5 episodes.
Very repetitive. And the same music played over and over and over starts to drive you insane. And you just want the Thundercats to properly use their weapons and slaughter those annoying mutant pricks, instead of letting them escape the whole time.
Also you realise what a total pussy Lion-O is. Whenever there's even the slightest hint of danger he just gets the Sword of Omens out and calls in the other Thundercats for backup

And I love how they just lifted a bunch of Farscape scenes for Cheetara. Didn't even need to give Gigi Edgley any 'cat' makeup 'cuz she already was.

When I first saw the pilot as a kid i the 80s, my eyes bugged out of my head when I saw Cheetara's naked breasts bouncing around my TV screen for the first fifteen or so minutes. That's what first hooked me.

And you just want the Thundercats to properly use their weapons and slaughter those annoying mutant pricks, instead of letting them escape the whole time.

Lion-O's sword wouldn't let him kill or injure anything. He tried to kill a deer or something once, and the sword kept flying out of his hand. God, how the f*ck do I remember that sh*t?

Thundercats is a fond memory of mine from my childhood, but, looking back, I've come to the realization/conclusion that, ultimately, the series was overshadowed for me by other 80s cartoons such as Silverhawks (made by the same animation studio) and Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors.

With that said, I do have fond memories of Panthro, Wily-Kit/Wily-Kat, Cheetara, and 'new Thundercats' Pumyra and Lynx-O, who were always more interesting to me than Lion-O for some reason.

In rewatching both shows at different points when Toonami ran them, I think Thundercats had somewhat better writing than Silverhawks, with the latter being more distinctly on a kids' level. There were some genuinely good storylines in Thundercats (one that springs to mind is the five-part Anointment episodes, where Lion-O had to truly earn his lord title by competing against the other Thundercats), while often times in Silverhawks they just made stuff out of the blue. Silverhawks was pretty decent itself, but between the two I have a bigger spot for Thundercats.
