Another small, old ship...

A Klingon BOP combined with one of those Dr. Grordbort ray guns:)

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg178/judexavier/KlingonRaygunRocket0275p.jpg

I know it's silly :), and not finished...it would have more fins, coils, ribs and rivets. Actually, if you took a Bird of Prey and gave it a "MIG-15" look, that would be rather neat.
(forgive my crappy attempt at "accurate" perspective drawing...I really need to practice my vanishing points-probably why I do so many of those side-views :))

Anyway,
That could work fine for the impulses, since they apparently don't have to be COG, perhaps the older models pumped out a lot of excess heat (or these needed a tune up).

Yeah I need to get that shuttle figured out. The problem I'm having is that rhomboid? shape, it's very rounded and tapered, lots of compound curves blending into the nacelles, plus trying to figure out that "pilot window", that somebody could actually sit behind and see something useful out of.
Perhaps it could be a sensor (SOP for when a window doesn't work:)).

^Wow! some neat lines on that BOP. The back half I LOVE! don't change it much at all in form. Maybe add more detailing.

The front half I think looks more like a device than a ship, if you get my meaning. There seems to be no room for the crew.

You've got the beginnings of something very cool there. :techman:

i like it :)

looks like what a early 22 or late 21rst century Klingon ship could look like :) :techman:

This just gets better and better. I LOVE it!!!

And I really like a lot of the ideas you've incorporated into the BOP, judexaviar!

A couple of thoughts on the following:

I tried adding a phaser bank to the bottom of the saucer, but it was too big... and it it looked tacked on... maybe they can be inside that lower dome, so that when it fires phasers, it looks like the original TOS Enterprise?

Or, could they possibly pop out from behind those rectangular panels on the primary hull (especially on the dorsal side), NX-01 fashion?

I also had an idea about where the impulse engines are... at the back of the nacelles, you have those two slits, right before the discolored "overheated" looking areas. Maybe those are the impulse exhausts?

I actually sort of like this idea. But, I also had another "outside the Trek box" idea, looking at this: what if the impulse engines were oriented vertically along the aft side of the "neck"?

Just a thought.

I'll go back to my knitting now. ;)

Gorgeous! Wonderful! I want to do a TV show now! :)

I guess we need a Klingon or Romulan :)
You know it just occurred to me that I completely forgot to consider any weaponry...oh except for that brief "deflectors as weapons" notion. I guess they could be hidden under some of those panels.

Wonderful job, Madman.
:)

A Klingon bird of prey would go great alongside this ship
I think you meant to say that this would go great firing phasers at and blowing up a Klingon bird of prey. :p

This is "crappy"?!?? I wish my crappy stuff looked like this!
Maybe it's the organic lines or the aft central fin, but this is giving me a Romulan vibe.

OK this has to be one of the coolest art threads I have seen in a long time. Not only is this awesome design work but inspirational as well makes me want to design something.

That's awesome. :) With a more traditional "head", this would be the perfect design to go opposite Metaluna.

Popping out isn't a bad idea, but seems out of place on such a small ship, It would take up too much room inside, maybe. I'm going to go for now with them being hidden under that transparent blue sensor dome thing. :)

It's funny you mentioned the impulse engines in the neck, because I tried a few versions of that. The main problem I had is that the neck is so steep, they had to be inset pretty far to look like the fired backwards, and not at an angle upwards, and looked kind of weird. It was a good idea though, since we both had it. :)

Indeed. :)

I like that Klingon ship just the way it is--a Mig to the Metaluna's Sabre.

In fact, you might even have a backstory. Didn't Klingons start off like Ogrons (Dr. Who) or the Pakleds, being invaded by offworlders (the HerQ') and using their technology? This would then be not the D-7 but the A-1, the first Klingon design directly based on a single occupant HerQ ship that was stormed by Klingon warriors after a crash (their Roswell.) Or maybe some ancient Husnock vessel the Klingons found and respected as fellow warriors.

If our Roman empire had access to future tech--Rome would have never fallen (Romulans) or Feudal Japan/USSR (Klingons).

Therefore, call these two vessels participants of the first combat ever between UESPA and the Klingons. Sternbach's small Klingon shuttle (runabout) from his Chronology would thus have been the first contact with Klingons (had their been no Temporal cold war). A battle with this Herq ship and a UESPA vessel, then Masao's Lancaster and D-derivatives, and so on.

The D-5 from Enterprise to me looks more futuristic than D-7, and I might have called it a hunter Killer, with the Archer Romulan Bird of Prey being a STTMP era Romulan Warbird--and their Aenar Drone being a direct predecessor to Narada.

I hope ya'll like them. :) I just used backgrounds that I've used before, for other things.

Can't wait to get started on this Klingon ship. :)

^^ Sweet! :techman:

But I still don't get where your light source is coming from that's spotlighting the ship's registry and name.

:)

Well, there's these force-fields that bend light around from the deflector dish, and brighten it and focus it.... :)

I just didn't model them. The place I was thinking of putting them won't cast light the way they need to, anyway. I guess it's not the first Trek ship to have this problem, though. :)

My new wallpapers:) I'll have to get one of those switcher programs so I can cycle through them automatically:)

Beautiful work. I love the colors and design you put into your spacescapes, and, as always, the planets are killer.

Ah, I'd love to be able to compose this sort of sweeping back-story...I guess I've never really absorbed enough of the trek "universe" though. My brother is a writer, and he does this sort of thing at will, just blows me away. (Unfortunately he pretty much hates Trek, :( ,more into the horror genre).

Love the Roswell parallel :)

Wow add me as another person who loves this ship. This is really good ship design. Using the basic familiar shape but in a new and interesting way. It's definitely Star Trek and Starfleet but it isnt just distorting an existing design or kitbashiing. i so wish this ship could appear canonically someday.
