Another small, old ship...

^^ Sweet! :techman:

But I still don't get where your light source is coming from that's spotlighting the ship's registry and name.
:)

Well, there's these force-fields that bend light around from the deflector dish, and brighten it and focus it.... :)

I just didn't model them. The place I was thinking of putting them won't cast light the way they need to, anyway. I guess it's not the first Trek ship to have this problem, though. :)

Perhaps a tiny bump with a pin-point light effect, to suggest a lamp? Like a small phaser nipple. Or, you could model some dental mirrors flying alongside the ship:)

A Klingon BOP combined with one of those Dr. Grordbort ray guns:)

I know it's silly :), and not finished...it would have more fins, coils, ribs and rivets. Actually, if you took a Bird of Prey and gave it a "MIG-15" look, that would be rather neat.
(forgive my crappy attempt at "accurate" perspective drawing...I really need to practice my vanishing points-probably why I do so many of those side-views :))

Anyway,
That could work fine for the impulses, since they apparently don't have to be COG, perhaps the older models pumped out a lot of excess heat (or these needed a tune up).

Yeah I need to get that shuttle figured out. The problem I'm having is that rhomboid? shape, it's very rounded and tapered, lots of compound curves blending into the nacelles, plus trying to figure out that "pilot window", that somebody could actually sit behind and see something useful out of.
Perhaps it could be a sensor (SOP for when a window doesn't work:)).

In. Fucking. Credible.

I've been lurking in this thread since the beginning - I figure it's time to tell you how AWESOME this ship is!

Yowza! She sure is purdy, fellers!

This is the plausibly retro look that ENT should have had--this or Vektor's Vanguard, which took the retro-futurist thing in a different, less stream-lined but equally pleasing direction. This truly is lovely.

Thanks, guys. :)

The mesh is now up on my website for download. I expect to see some more renders of this guy in here soon. :)

Alright... I got my minor tweaks fixed, and fixed the registry number error. :) I spent about 3 hours building some wallpaper's tonight...

This first shot looks great. Looks like something from one of the movies or shows.

Nice! :techman:

But I gotta say that I still don't care for those spotlights. They're not TOS yet if you're going to have them then you need a light source for them.

deg3D put small bump/fairings on his TOS shuttle for spotlight housings...OTOH I wonder if it would look cheesy to simulate those "low-viz" strip self-illuminated Navy type markings on these older ships? Perhaps as an older technique than the TMP "spot light" illumination?

I'm usually against bumping threads for no reason, but this ship is just too beautiful to let it slip off the 1st page.

:techman:

Interesting you say that...I was thinking the other day Madman should have a sticky thread..."Madman's workbench" or "Under construction at Madman's Shipyard" or something:)

Well, i'm not sure of the "Fairness" of having a single thread dedicated to one person stickied at the top, but certainly a thread showcasing some of the more skilled members. Perhaps along the same lines of what we have over in the fanfic thread. One is for the winners of each months challenge, one is for people to recommend fanfics for others to read.

True, yes. It was just a thought, when I saw those other posts. :)

I'll stop bumping now. :)
