Angel- Why no Love!

Aside from Frasier Crane, "Angel" featured -- as many pointed out -- one of the greatest developed character/tranformations on television, in the form of Wesley. It's amazing what he started at, to where he ended, and it was all believable as well.

Plus, we got great lines which wouldn't have been NEARLY as funny if it weren't for the journey and character development, like:

Angel: "Wes?"
Wesley: "Kill them all!"

:D

Hearing him say that, and the look on his face -- it's just something you have to build to to make such a unremarkable exchange, just ... well, it made me giddy. :D

There was a lot of great lines on the show, including:

Fred: "You know what they say about revenge? Well, I'm the bitch."

Wes definitely had the best development, and he showed many times brains over brawn can do it. I love his little inventions to, like the little device under his sleeve that can do...well, anything. I think we've seen it be a sword, a stake and a grappler of some kind, maybe something else? Fred made a few interesting inventions to, but overall I did see a blend of humor, and awkward humor, the type that's just not 'meant' to be funny at least in context, but we the audience, see it funny.

Another thing you get to see watching "Buffy" is the Faith storyline. I love Faith's episodes in "Angel," but they don't really mean anything without the background from Buffy Season 3-4.

Very true, for the most part her storyline is in those seasons of Buffy, and more or less concluded/continued in Angel.

The crossovers are pretty cool to (and somewhat frustrating if you don't have all of the episodes), most franchises have appearances of a character, or part one is one series, and part two is another one, whereas Angel and Buffy's crossovers were literately as such, often taking place during the particular episode of the other series that references are given to. An example would be, in one of the first episodes of Angel, Angel calls Buffy, but doesn't speak and in an episode of Buffy in...season four I think, also one of the first episodes she gets that particular phone call. A similar thing happens with Fred and Willow in Angel season four, Fred calls Willow in an Angel episode to get her to help and in a Buffy episode, Willow gets a call "from someone named Fred" and takes off for L.A. Good stuff.

^Indeed. There were lots of little crossovers like that that had absolutely nothing to do with the story but still acknowledged the other show's existence, which was a nice touch.

Just watch a few of episodes from season 5, and wondering with Spike having a soul doesnt that kind of take away the specialness with Angel having one?

To me that is what was so different about Angel compared to other vamps in the show.

also didnt Spike like rape Buffy or soemthing so whats the story about Spike.

Yes. Just keep watching. This very issue is gonna spawn some really hilarious Angel/Spike scenes.

That was before he got his soul. He felt really bad about it, so he went through some trials to get his soul back.

yea because of the fact he almost raped her is why he went out to get a soul, you'll see. Spike is another character who kind of went thru a bit of evolution, not as drastic as Wesley's, but somewhat a far cry from his William the Poet days.

I particularly like how she does the "Floored/surprised/speechless/Whatever you want to call it" face, the look when Wesley said she was beautiful, she was like "..." Did it a couple times in Angel to, just the way its done is like "Uh...ok..."

Just wondering. Since with season 5 Angel swiped everyones memory of Conner, how did they explain instory about why Cordy was in a comma? And did anyone remember Jasmine and the things that happened cause of her and how she died?
And how did Wolfram an Heart get fully staffed so quick when everyone that worked there was killed? and seems like those that worked there in season 5 been working there for years? Or did the Beast just kill the main bosses and the rest were at home?

Like someone else said, Magic, more or less...Some of those people likely did work for Wolfram & Hart for years. Maybe not at that particular location, but it's a multi-dimensional, multi-branch law firm. If Cordy was changed, likely, something about her getting sick or into an accident was usedm or Connor was just simply erased with someoen elses name in his place.

Did Buffy go get a soul after she did the same thing to him in "Gone" ?

Simple - Shows up in season two, is an evil Vampire known for having killed two Slayers, is loved by fans, returns in season three briefly, returns as a regular in season four with a chip in his brain that stops him committing acts of violence against humans, falls in love with Buffy in season five.

Then Buffy dies, comes back all miserable, gets turned invisible for an episode, uses this to sexually assault Spike, audience forgets this because Female on Male Rape is Funny. (We know this because Joss has made a running "joke" out of it on his shows - there are three instances of it on Buffy alone.)

Buffy then gets in to a fight with a Vampire, hurts her back on a gravestone and this somehow renders her unable to fight off Spike when he tries to force himself on her despite being significantly stronger than him and having frequently shrugged off far more serious injuries.

Spike then runs off and gets a soul.

How exactly was it a "meandering mess?"
Most of the villians never lived up to be any real threat and ended up being misunderstood tortured souls.

The sun was supposed to be blocked out, yet in Sunnydale a few miles away nothing is affected and they still have sun.

The conclusion to Conner's story is a cheat.

Wolfram & Hart under lying story builds up into nothing.

Cordies ghost at her apt. serves no purpose.

Plus, I'll never understand why Angel owns a large hotel, yet Cordie, Westly & Gunn chose to stay in their own apts. and pay rent instead.

Angel is an ok show and had potential to be better than Buffy but I don't think it ever found it's footing for soild deep story telling. So it relies on silly humor to push it through. Westly & Fred out shine their other team mates while Gunn seems to become a parody of Luke Cage, a tuff jive talking street thug fighting for good. That's corny.

It was very explicitly stated that it was a local issue, hence why all those Vampires flocked to LA.

Because the hotel is largely shown to be a dump that should be condemned. Angel doesn't particularly care about this because he's used to living poorly.
