NFL Football 2009

Well, we have our first big reffing controversy of the postseason. I saw the first helmet-to-helmet hit and blew a gasket over that, but I didn't realise the facemask on the last play. Considering how over-protective refs have been of QB's this season, it's kinda shocking that they botch two big calls of that variety on the final drive of the game.

Im telling you..makes you wonder if "outside" influences affect some games...

Peter King has an interesting take on that specific call, at the bottom of this linked page.

The non-call seemed pretty blatant when I first saw it, but now I'm not so sure. It's looking more like what King explains.

I saw that face mask on the replay just before they cut away. It was really obvious, and I'm surprised not even a commentator said anything. I like both the Packers and the Cardinals and I'm disappointed their clash of offensive maniacs ended on a tainted play.

In other news, the Jets won. And the Patriots lost. That was a pretty good weekend for me.

Here's a link to the play. I can see both sides of the argument here. The hand gets up in the facemask, but it isn't a blatant yanking of the helmet. Still, I'd think it would be a incidental facemask at worst ... which lends more to the theory that it was just a missed call.

And Aaron Rogers really blew the game when missed that wide open dude on the previous play..would have been a touch down...Arizona should get all the props. They played a good game and I think New Orleans better be ready.

It's not official yet.

What I had read before was reporting it as if it were a done deal. Now, I'm seeing other reports that say what you just did - that's NOT a done deal yet.

But just for argument's sake, what do you think? Would it be good for him to leave? Good for the school or the Seahawks?

It could be good for the Seahawks. Pete's record at the pro level is not very impressive. He really seems a college guy to me.

As for USC, I think he'd be leaving them in the lurch, especially if sanctions are coming. That would leave a very bitter taste in my mouth, despite all the great success he's brought to the program.

Think this story has anything to do with it? The USC coach who got into an accident while driving a university vehicle in 08 had a pretty serious pain killer addiction. He claims he told Carroll about it 4 months before the accident.

The victim, who declined medical treatment at the scene, is now suing the university and Pete Carroll has been subpoenaed to give a deposition.

The amount of vicodin and similar pain pills this guy had taken is staggering.

And it's official - Carroll leaves USC

bro, there's some controversy regarding an issue with Joe McKnight, who has now declared for the NFL draft. Add to that the onoing saga involving the Reggie Bush case, and it's hard to blame Carroll for wanting a change of venue. Why is this Reggie Bush story still hanging around? That happened what .... five years ago or so?

Now hold on there, Sparky. First off, the Packers don't even sniff the overtime without Rodgers' heroics. Yeah, he made a couple of mistakes that he wishes he could have back, but he played incredibly well in that second half. Add to that he led the Packers to 45 points on an excellent Cardinals defense. Bottom line, while Arizona deserves credit for winning that game, they don't "deserve all the props". Give credit where credit is due and recognize what the Packers achieved in a an extremely hostile environment against a QB who is a probable HoF'er.

Aaron Rogers did a great job..no doubt about it. But had he hit the second to last pass he'd be moving on to the next round...But don't get me wrong; I like Aaoron Rogers more than I like that ex-Packer. Hmmmm..whats his name?

Now, you can't really say that either. You can't put the entire game on the fact that he threw to the "wrong" guy. Any game you look at, there are open guys all day who don't get the ball tossed to them. At worst, they are simply missed opportunities. Certainly something like that isn't a game-breaker.

Here's a thought..... now that Pete Carroll has moved on to Seattle, do the Seahawks play the Jets (and Mark Sanchez) next season?

You been watchin da FOOSBALL?!!!

Foosball is from THE DEVIL!!!

I now return you to your regularly scheduled ignoring or loathing of QuasarVM.

I think the Bush story is hanging around because of what happened with the McKnight kid and the land rover. Add to that the "issues" the basketball program has been having and it begins to look like a lack of institutional control.
