NFL Football 2009

Wow, I stopped watching this one to run some errands when Arizona had a huge lead...and come back to a 38-all tie?? This obviously hasn't been a defensive battle... :wtf:

This is a great game...I dont really care who wins (charger fan here) but i do respect both teams very much after watching this battle..

Rob

Seriously? Both defenses should be made to walk home from this game. I would be embarrassed if either of these were my team.

I have, for now, but three things to say:
  • Kurt Warner is a freakin' neurosurgeon
  • Aaron Rodgers is the real deal
Congratulations to the Packers on an excellent season.

What a shoot-out in the desert today! Jeez, play defense much??

And of course with the Patriots out of the picture, the sun shines just a little bit brighter....

:techman:

I hate cliches, especially in sports. But man oh man this was a game where I hate to see either team lose. What a frikking amazing show put on by both teams!!

Well, Pack dug themselves a hole. A-Rod had Jennings for all tea, so to speak. That's all you can ask for.

Of course he was roughed blatantly on the last two plays, at least as bad as Warner was hit earlier when he got a call. But, it is what it is, no shame in the effort. It just highlights where we need to concentrate in the offseason. If we had just rolled over after that horrible start this would be a lot harder to take.

You kidding? Defense won the game!

Could prove to be an interesting game Saturday—especially considering that Green Bay's defense is better than New Orleans'.

Of course, the Saints have a few guys on offense, unless I'm mistaken.

I keep forgetting.... how many challenges does an NFL team get per game/half?
The have a guarenteed 2 challenges per game as long as they still have time-outs. If a coach uses both of his challenges and wins both, then he is awarded a third challenge.

The Pats/ Ravens game shocked me. I know that the Pats have had issues all season and that they just lost one of their top guys last week, but they looked terrible. Could not get anything going, and Baltimore took it to them. The Ravens offensively slowed down after the first quarter massacre, but the defense stood strong and did not let the Pats gain any momentum. Yet another playoff game that wasn't particularly entertaining.

And then we had the Packers/ Cards game. The only real game this weekend. I am so glad that I didn't turn it off after the first quarter or the first half, like I seriously considered. That turned into one of the best games I have seen in a long time. The Packers may be my NFC team simply because I like Rodgers so much. He is one helluva QB. That onside kick call changed the face of the entire game and it turned into an unstoppable, all-out aerial assault from both Rodgers and Warner. There was almost no point to sending the defenses onto the field because there was no stopping either one of those guys. I truly believe that, all things being equal, OT would have come down to whoever got the ball first, except the Cardinal defense pulled one last miracle out of their asses. It was heart-breaking to see the game end the way that it did, but it kinda sums up the year for that Packer offense. If Rodgers can get some consistant protection, he will be an absolute monster. Great game on both sides.

Next, I'm a Jets fan.

Here are my next week picks...Visiting teams listed on top...

Arizona 35
New Orleans 31
I am going for the upset here...Warner is just on another level in playoffs..

Dallas 38
Vikings 30
Going for the upset here too...Dallas is on fire

Ravens 28
Colts 31
Close game...but colts win a nail biter

Jets 20
Chargers 35
As we saw today in the GREENBAY/ARIZONA match up, Defense isn't everything. Having a rookie QB will catch up to the JETS next week...

The Cardinals, it seems, have a big-play defense—whether giving them up or creating them. They looked like crap in the second half, for the most part ... but began and ended the game with critical turnovers. Looks like they miss a lot of tackles going for the monster hit and/or game-changing play. I've also never seen a great team that allows receivers to weave through their secondary after a catch the way this one does.

Time was, I would have preferred a more consistent group. Now, I wouldn't have 'em any other way. It seems part and parcel of their personality.

While I still think Matt Leinart can be a fine NFL quarterback, you have to feel for whomever succeeds Warner in Arizona. The man practically walks on water during the playoffs.

As to whether or not he's a Hall of Famer, well ... you'd really have to be quite obtuse to think otherwise—which, unfortunately, qualifies innumerable sportswriters.

Just ask Marc Bulger...

Who could argue this point? Warner is a Hall of Famer. First ballot, too.

Made it just a wee bit further than your beloved Rams I'd say.

This will piss off nevermore, but FUCK YOU RAVENS! I'm none too thrilled with the Pats either. Way to mail it in right from the start.

I turned that game off in the 4th quarter and did some online training for work, which was far more exciting.

Take a look at this line for Warner:
Code:
[U]Att Comp Pct. Yds TD INT Rating[/U]
33 29 .878 379 5 0 154.1

As Peter King noted in his column on SI.com, "Look hard. More touchdowns than incompletions."

Arizona's punter sure had an easy game- only had to go out on the field once.

I'm bummed that my Packers lost, but that was a helluva fun game to watch. And I give credit to Green Bay for coming back after basically spotting Arizona two touchdowns. Maybe next year...

Well, we have our first big reffing controversy of the postseason. I saw the first helmet-to-helmet hit and blew a gasket over that, but I didn't realise the facemask on the last play. Considering how over-protective refs have been of QB's this season, it's kinda shocking that they botch two big calls of that variety on the final drive of the game.
