We know that The End of Time is the last story with David Tennant's Doctor, and it will all end with him regenerating. But I was just wondering, will we actually see Matt Smith in it? I was thinking maybe they'll end with Ten regenerating, but we won't get to see Eleven until Series 5? Sort of like how the Second Doctor story The War Games finished. It's just a thought.

Yes.

Some think we've already seen him in part one anyway.

It's inconceivable that he won't appear - the only reason Troughton didn't change into Pertwee was because he hadn't been cast yet.

I really hope we see him. When it's well done, a regeneration scene is always something to remember.

"Hello. Hmm... new teeth. That's weird. So where was I? Oh, that's right. Barcelona."

Yes, he will, and it will totally destroy the emotional impact of Ten's 'death', just like it happened with Nine's. ;)
Judging from the set photos of Smith's first episode, where he's still in Ten's clothes for at least the beginning, it seems as if the Doctor is rushing right into his next adventure, even more so than Two.

Well thats not the worst post-regeneration line, remember:

Peri: Doctor?
6th Doctor: You were expecting someone else?
Peri: I......I...I
6th Doctor: Thats three I's in one breath, makes you sound a rather egotistical young lady.
Peri: What's happened?
6th Doctor: Change, my dear, and seems not a moment to soon! - go to credits.

Well RTD has a knack for destroying emotional scenes with silly or comedic stuff crashing in. The 9th doctor regenrating and then with Ten's teeth/Barcelona line was not as bad as:

- Saying farewell to Rose with a tear in his eye, then the next shot the tear is gone and we see Donna in here wedding dress and some out of place lines. this was one of the worst.

If he doesn't appear, in at least the last few seconds, it'll be a first for DW.

Yes, except for the War Games.

And hey I loved the first shot with the sixth Doctor, and Donna.

Yes, I was thinking about that, as well. On the other hand, it's kind of nice the seasons don't end on a low note, and the end of 'Doomsday' was just heartbreaking. It would have been quite depressing to end season two like that.

The worst?! I love both scenes.

Have to say, much as Colin Baker went a long way to killing off my childhood love of Who, that was a great post regeneration moment.

And of course we'll see Smith, that's the fun bit right? ;)

I know it won't happen, but I think it would be cool if Smith got his own regeneration effect too, instead of just a repeat of Tennant's. It's a cool effect and all, but it's always looked different for every Doctor, and I'd love to see that tradition continue.

This. I have to say I really hate the new firey explosion regeneration effect. I much prefered the fade to white, features melt and reform effect from Davison onward.

Yeah, so far every regeneration we've seen in the new show (9 to 10, the Master and 10's abortive regen) have all featured the same effect. I'd like it if Smith's was a little different...at the very least I hope he isn't stood with his hands wide like Jesus!

I'd be disappointed and very surprised if we didn't see him. It's way too soon after the half-regeneration cliffhanger of The Stolen Earth to do that again, and it would rob younger viewers of a great moment. Not showing the reborn Doctor on New Year's Day 2010? Inconceivable!:)

I actually like how dramatic and powerful it is (and in retrospect it seems like a fitting introduction for Tennant's flashy 10th Doctor). But for Smith I would definitely like something a bit more subtle.

Hell, even just a blue explosion of light would be better than nothing.

I enjoyed the Nine/Ten regeneration sequence.

If Davies is as poor a producer and writer as the critics claim, I wish we had ten of him working in TV here in the States because most of what's on TV - and just about all current skiffy stuff - pales compared to an average episode of his version of Doctor Who. Fuck, I doubt that anyone half as witty has ever been in charge of Star Trek.
