Top Gear New Series

Great episode, the best all year. :techman: Hammond's car rolling down the hill was definitely staged, and Jeremy trying to pass that silver car on the road of death was probably planned as well, but it was still a very enjoyable episode.

James: Please be gentle with this Jeremy and not a yob.
Jeremy: POWER!!

I expect that Clarkson really did have a narrow escape on the edge of the road (they said time and time again how dangerous it was) and they just recreated it afterwards so they could get all of those camera angles in. Once again, Hammond's bad acting spoiled what could have been a perfectly respectable gag (car rolling down dune).

Not as good as the Botswana special or the Vietnam special but definitely a solid third. They could have done without the first 15 minutes of dicking about on the barge though.

This is how i would rank the specials
North Pole Special -10/10
Vietnam Special-10/10
Botswana special-10/10
American -9/10
Bolivian Special -8/10
Factual America-7/10
Winter Olympics Special- 7/10

I just downloaded the Polar Special in HD on iPlayer. In fact, I downloaded the whole of the current series so far (as well as Toy Stories). Will watch them this week as I missed out on it the first time.

Loved Hammonds "If I was a girl, I'd get pregnant, a lot." quote

While I don't think this was as good as some of the major events they've done in the past it was still very enjoyable and I hope that even should top gear go off the air they keep these up once a year.

If Top Gear did one or two of these specials a year once they inevitably go off the air, I'd be happier than a pig in slop.

I thought this one was up there, as good as the Polar, Vietnam and Botswana specials, and definitely better than the America (Miami to New Orleans) one.

As someone with a fear of heights who gets woozy driving when there's a sheer drop off one side, I can totally relate to May's fear of heights. And I don't care if Clarkson's passing the SUV on that insane road was staged or if the final drive down the dunes was creatively edited to make it look steeper than it was--both of those segments almost had me pissing myself. Stupid fear of heights. :)

It was okay and in my opinion lacked something, I've only seen it once, but when I watched it on Sunday it just felt as if it dragged.

My heart was literally pounding at moments in that South American special. Save for one or two moments of blatant staging (I'm looking at you Hammond's car spontaneously driving itself off a cliff) and it was easily the best show this year. Not the best ever, but it deserves to be up there with Vietnam and Veyron Race.
Staged or not, I still nearly had an aneurysm from laughing so hard.

After reading some other peoples statements online, I think its safe for say that it was staged purely because Hammond's car wasn't safe enough for the descent down the dune.

And if thats the case, then fair doos.

I thought it was a lot funner then some of the eps this series.

Biggest problem last night was clearly the whinging about their new significantly tinier budget, Clarkson and Co should be a bit more realistic about it.

As for the episode they really do need to review some more normal cars instead of silly expensive ones like the BMW X6 you KNOW they will hate. Even if they did it in the style of the New Fiesta review it would have been good to see something on the new Mk VI Golf GTI, the Scirocco R or even the new Polo (yes I am a VW fan, live with it).

New Focus next year - MUST be worthy of a mention?

I wasn't too bothered last night, it wasn't the best but it didn't appear too staged and over the top, well you know apart from the travelling the world bit which was worth a chuckle.
Not the best but fair to middling and I prefer that to the recent spurge of bad ones

^Shut yo mouth, Foo!

The new Ferrari is absolutely sensuous, it might be my new favourite Prancing Horse...

I think the silver Ferrari F430 James has just got himself looks better than that car but that could just be because i hate red cars.

Ok, maybe I have a strange taste of aesthetics then. ;)

But I hate those eyebrows on the front lights and that little bump in the hood and from behind it looks like a Toyota.
