Top Gear New Series

Hammond? Really? I always thought he was horrible in everything outside of Top Gear. In his other work, he sounds like he's reading from cue cards and not like he's into the material unlike Clarkson and May. By watching their individual documentaries you can see that Clarkson's genuinely interested in WWII and May enjoys his toys and gadgets (and wine, but that doesn't really count since he's interacting with Oz Clarke), while watching Hammond's it feels like he's just there for a paycheck.

I completely agree. I don't remember having seen Clarkson do anything other than Top Gear, but he's obviously got a lot of charisma and is interesting to watch on tv and May has been great in some other things like that Moon special. Hammond? I've seen him on that British Mythbusters rip-off which he sucked at imo and he's also my least favourite presenter on Top Gear.
British Mythbusters rip off? Brainiac? Should I Worry About...? I stopped watching Brainiac once he left because it wasn't as good without him.
I like his voice over on Total Wipeout too. I think he started a production company now as well.

I know Hammond does a show called Engineering Connections for a cable channel don't know if its any good though.
Had a look at whats Clarkson been up to http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0165087/
Manly car DVDs to sell at xmas but saw the greatest raid of all time from what i heard is supposed to be really really good as anyone here seen it?

Engineering Connections has its moments (like with the chicken gun against different alloys and carbon fiber), but it's a pretty run of the mill series otherwise.

Clarkson's Greatest Raid documentary is absolutely FANTASTIC. Definitely watch it if you can.

Love how women have been lumbered in with idiots, imbeciles.

After rereading that quote, I see your point although I didn't interpret it the same way you did.

I took it as Top Gear's getting away from its core audience of car enthusiasts and dumbing itself down to appeal to the lowest common denominator (the idiots and imbeciles of the world who drool over the show of the moment and have absolutely zero loyalty to it when the next big thing arrives--like the fans of all those idiotic reality shows or whatever crappy manufactured song happens to be playing on the radio at the time) and people who stereotypically aren't gear/petrolheads (i.e., women). I have no idea about the intent of the person who wrote that quote, but I apologize if you thought I was lumping in women with idiots and imbeciles.

Its ok i know you did not mean it that way.
The comment has already been commented on on FG.
I am not a petrol head but even though i am the sort of person who the reality shows are aimed at i just can't stand the likes of X factor and big brother.
The reason i like watching top gear is the chemistry between the presenters although i love it when May does a car review.

That's the same reason I watch it. I couldn't care less about the cars really as I don't drive and I'm not a "petrol head" but I watch it to be entertained and you know what, that's what it does, whether it's an epic steam train, car and motorbike race from London to Edinburgh, a home made electric car or filling some art exhibition up north somewhere, I am entertained and to me, that's all that matters.

Oh and some dick on facebook created this: Save Top Gear

I think that while it would be a shame to get rid of Clarkson as I really like him, perhaps we could cut him back a bit so that it's more even between them. I think they are now at the point where people aren't just watching petrolhead clarkson and two other guys.

I just wish they'd go back to trying to do things properly-ish (and failing hilariously through natural incompetence) than setting out to cock things up on purpose.
I agree with this, the worst has been their rally race with cars from the auction house. Usually the guys stand a chance of winning but b*gger themselves over through general incompetance. With that one they had broken cars that were horribly outclassed, they then arrived two days late and finnaly they thought that wasn't good enough so gave us the co-pilots from hell.

My heart was literally pounding at moments in that South American special. Save for one or two moments of blatant staging (I'm looking at you Hammond's car spontaneously driving itself off a cliff) and it was easily the best show this year. Not the best ever, but it deserves to be up there with Vietnam and Veyron Race.

Loved James comment after he needed some water after taking Viagra.
Iam gonna get a massive neck if I don't have some of that

I figured the Landcruiser wouldn't make it down, so rather than fail in a boring manner, they staged its death :)

Other than that, I agree, great show.

Loved Hammonds "If I was a girl, I'd get pregnant, a lot." quote

While I don't think this was as good as some of the major events they've done in the past it was still very enjoyable and I hope that even should top gear go off the air they keep these up once a year.

Great episode, the best all year. :techman: Hammond's car rolling down the hill was definitely staged, and Jeremy trying to pass that silver car on the road of death was probably planned as well, but it was still a very enjoyable episode.

James: Please be gentle with this Jeremy and not a yob.
Jeremy: POWER!!

Staged or not, I still nearly had an aneurysm from laughing so hard.
