23rd of November, 1963 - 46th Anniversary today

Can you believe we're still here talking about a show that's 46 years old?

Anyone doing anything special today?

I imagine it'll make it 50. That'll be awesome. They need to do an episode with all living Doctors just for the hell of it when they reach 50.

Remember, remember, the 23rd of November.

Crap, wrong universe.

Anyways, if I have the time, I'll probably watch the commentary of one of my new Who DVDs or listen to one of the audios I recently bought.

i have 2 demands of the 50th.

1. an anniversary Four Doctors story with 8, 10, 11 and a younger 1.

2. a reappearance of Ace.

I imagine it'll make it 50.

I think that's a given. Unless the BBC experiences some sort of utter collapse (in which case BBC America - a separate company - would just take over production, or maybe Syfy) or absolutely zero people watch Matt Smith, or the world does in fact end on Dec. 21, 2012, I can't see any reason why the show can't last another 4 years. And even if it doesn't, it's even money the Big Finish audios and the novels will continue.

Happy Anniversary, Doctor Who!

I feel quite honored to have finally enlightened myself and caught onto the phenomenon that is this show. I wish it MANY more years to come, partly out of a selfish desire to be able to have finally latched onto a show that has extreme longevity. A good number of the shows I'm a fan of often don't last past two seasons.

Here's to 2055, when I can say that *I* have been a fan of the show for 46 years. And let's see if we can keep it going 'til then!

I'm just wondering what will be done when Doc #13 is around...I mean he's gonna have a problem there. :p
I've said before and I'll say it again: I hope they have the guts to end the show. I'm serious. I would love to see The Thirteenth Doctor discover his morality and struggle with it. Not like how The Tenth Doctor keeps wrangling over it now, but truly realize this is the end for The Doctor. No escape routes, no following the path of The Master, no last second miracles. Truly the end of The Doctor. Done right, I think it would be masterful and brilliant end to an incredible series.

In utter agreement with you, EMH. However whether I'd still feel the same way once we were coming to the end of the 13th Doctor's run is another matter. I suspect I'll get quite hypocritical!

I decided to watch "Planet of the Dead", though that was just coincidence, since I'd actually forgotten about the anniversary. :o

I might think that way had the middle Doctors geen given longer fuller lives, but now I really don't care or even think about it. And in any event if the Master can have more lives than normal so should the Doctor.

I watched parts 2 and 3 of Dreamland, but I wasn't aware of the significance of the date yesterday. I'm in a sort of Doctor Who phase at the moment, anyway. Watched 'The Ark' on the weekend and read 'The Celestial Toymaker'.

Of all the fucking days the world has to end, why does it have to be on my birthday? Still, my 25th would be a bang.

the last Doctor is going to be easy to get out of

theDoctor: I shouldnt be here, I should have died, why did I regenerate?
mysterious voice from everywhere & no where: ill explain later

None that can't be fixed by a single episode, or even a single line of dialogue. I don't think that we can say for certain that the upper limit of 12 regenerations is still in force. It could conceivably be some sort of limitation that the Time Lords imposed upon themselves but that was abolished or amended during the Time War. The closest that nuWho comes to addressing it is, I think, in The Next Doctor when Ten suggests that David Morrissey's character could be his next incarnation or the one after that. (This is after his half-regeneration in Journey's End.)

I agree, but we all know it won't happen, especially if Doctor Who continues to be a cash cow for the BBC when the time comes. The series provided an out as early as The Five Doctors and more recently Utopia for Time Lords to renew their regenerations. There's also the question as to whether the Doctor is actually a "normal" Time Lord (some hints being dropped during the McCoy era and the McGann movie). And without giving anything away, there's a couple of elements in Waters of Mars that could be referenced down the line. Plus the Doctor himself is just plain clever; he could work something out.

That said, I think it would be great for the 13th Doctor to be really timid and nervous, thinking that this is truly The End for him. That could make for some interesting storytelling.

Given the choice between the Doctor breaking the rules and going on to #14 and the BBC starting over with a reboot or a reimagining, I'll take Doctor 14.
