Yes. "Sir" is from "sire", and while I guess with 23rd century medicine it would be technically possible for a woman to sire a child (we're just about there now), it still seems like calling a woman "sir" would be implying more about her sexual preferences and lifestyle choices than seems like should be imbedded in what is supposed to be a title of respect from a lower-ranking crewperson....I figure everyone just calls her "Sir" personally![]()

I agree with this. It seems like an overly politically correct mangling of the language to me. I don't see the problem with "Sir" and "Ma'am" existing side by side in protocol, myself.
