IDW formally announces Sulu comic

I'd love to see more of Pike and April. I really enjoyed them in Crew, and the Pike stories in the Alien Spotlight series.

Also, I'd desperately love to see more of Commodore Number One on the Yorktown.

(What can I say? I'm a Pike/Number One fangirl. My focus, it is narrow but deep and heartfelt.)

Hmm... if the first officer (one rank below the captain) is Number One, then wouldn't a commodore (one rank above a captain) be Number Negative One? Kinda like magnitudes?

I figure everyone just calls her "Sir" personally :)

I've never been comfortable with calling women officers "Sir." How about "Admiral" or "Lieutenant" and avoid the whole thing altogether? :vulcan:

I agree with this. It seems like an overly politically correct mangling of the language to me. I don't see the problem with "Sir" and "Ma'am" existing side by side in protocol, myself.
Yes. "Sir" is from "sire", and while I guess with 23rd century medicine it would be technically possible for a woman to sire a child (we're just about there now), it still seems like calling a woman "sir" would be implying more about her sexual preferences and lifestyle choices than seems like should be imbedded in what is supposed to be a title of respect from a lower-ranking crewperson....

Nice, this has been a long time coming, I think. Certainly looking forward to picking this up.

I remember reading Sulu being very supportive of an Excelsior TV series... that would have been grand.

You read that a fictional character was supportive of a TV series about himself?? :wtf: I think you mean you read that George Takei was supportive of an Excelsior series.

 I meant George, of course!

The concept would likely be too abstract for Sulu.
