Chris Pine appreciation thread

Here's a link to Global Green USA. I haven't checked it out myself yet but I will tomorrow. Sounds like a great organization.

Yes; interesting. I'd be curious to know why he picked that one in particular. I can't remember if I've heard of it before.

Whew, gotta say, you have excellent taste. And a sharp eye; thanks.

so what do you think about the pics:drool:
I like 'em, but they are stretching the thread. Can you cut them down to size? The mods have been known to come in and do it when it's stretching the thread. Also, one of them isn't loading.

Ok, in today's Chris-alert mailbag, there is this blurb about Chris in a blu-ray.com disc review:

"As James T. Kirk, Chris Pine might be just a bit too rambunctious, but as the film develops, shades of William Shatner emerge, culminating with a scene at the end of the film that's unmistakably Kirk that longtime "Star Trek" veterans will immediately note in what is nothing but a simple look on the face and motion of the body."

And another from a review at the hd room.com:

"While breathing new life into a 43-year old franchise is difficult enough, finding an acceptable group of actors to fill the shoes of these iconic characters played by actors so identifiable in these roles is even more of a challenge. But once again, Abrams succeeds by perfectly matching the actors to the characters. Pine displays a nice mix of cockiness and arrogance to make for a fine Kirk. Quinto excels as Spock whose internal conflict serves as the film's emotional core; while Karl Urban is pitch-perfect as the abrasive McCoy. DeForrest Kelly would be proud. Despite reduced screen time, Simon Pegg (Scotty), John Cho (Sulu), Anton Yelchin (Checkov) and Zoe Saldana (Uhura) each do just fine helping to solidify the ensemble as the new "Magnificent Seven" in outer space."

There is another local Pennsylvania newspaper story about the filming there of Chris's movie with Denzel Washington, "Unstoppable": Milesburg laps up ‘Unstoppable’.

At tor.com, reviewer Eugene Myers uses as his sig line: "Eugene Myers is waiting for M. Night Shyamalan to tackle a remake of the classic Twilight Zone episode “Nick of Time,” perhaps set in the modern day with William Shatner reprising his role. Or maybe Chris Pine."

That would be cool.

Finally, someone quoted Chris as appearing in this video that came out in August; but in case you missed it:

People's 100 Sexiest Men 2009

Absolutely; just the slightest flavor. Kind of sends a shiver down a TOS fan's spine.

Well, if you want to know my opinion -- I think Chris actually looks like young Shatner. I've been a Kirk fan for decades and seen lots of Chris pictures, and many of them just look very similar to me.

I will try to find one particular one of youthful Shatner, where he looked quite nubile. I don't know if I can find it.

This isn't the one I was thinking of. It's hard to find any of Shatner that are young enough.

Chris was 26 in Blind Dating; Bill was 27. Bill looks very young for 27, doesn't he? The picture was taken in 1958 for a "Brothers Karamazov" production.

I like it!

This Chris screen cap is from his episode of "The Guardian," and I'm not sure about the Bill photo.

hope you enjoy my pics

so what do you think about the pics:drool:
startrekrcks, I've asked you more than once before not to post three times in a row. There's a rule against that, and posting twice within a minute (as you did ^above^ isn't much better. Please use the 'Edit' button to add to the existing post rather than posting again right away. I get that you can feel impatient, but if no one responds immediately to your question, just wait and refrain from bumping the thread again -- that could earn you a warning for spamming.

As for the pictures: yes, they're very nice, but they're quite large and are stretching the page horizontally when viewed in a standard-sized window at 1024x768 resolution; I've spoken to you about that before, as well. Please refer to TrekBBS policy concerning the posting of images. Images should be no larger than 640x480 (though I'll generally allow a little leeway in threads like these) and they should be hosted on your own web space, not hotlinked from someone else's. If you don't want to resize them for posting, what you can do is to put the larger images behind thumbnail (small) images, using BBCode like this:

HTML:
[URL=your large image URL here][IMG]your thumbnail image URL here[/IMG][/URL]
Which will give this as a result:

You can then click on the smaller image to see the large.

Again, please be careful to post within the rules you agreed to follow when you registered. If you're not clear about something, you can check the FAQ or just ask someone, but don't keep doing something if it's A) against the rules or B) you've been asked by a TrekBBS staff member not to do it (which usually means that it's against the rules.)
