Has Anyone Else's Interest Disappeared?

So I have to be honest I missed SGU one time (it was the third part of the pilot) and, ever since, I've had pretty much zero interest in the show. I mean I put it on but I pretty much ignore the television the entire time its on and I don't make any real effort to watch it.

Did this happen to anyone else? Are you losing interest?

I lost interest after the third episode. Just seems so boring. I miss the good ole days of stargate, at least they shot more people.

I'd say quite the opposite. I guess I had enough of the weekly firefight with ja'ffa/Orii/Genii/Wraith through the universal evergreen forest.

50/50 On the interest. I've been watching the episodes online, so I haven't missed any yet. But they're going to have to really pick up the pace a little or I'm going to start cherry picking episodes. Frankly, I'm a little concerned it's going to be a nuBSG fanfic with the serial numbers scratched off. One thing they should have done, IMO, instead of wasting the first season on "world building" they should have launched the series with a mini-series the way (ironically, given my previous statement) nuBSG did. The stuff they're doing right now just doesn't scream "Watch me for 4+ years".

Pretty much the opposite for me. Air 1 and 2 left me feeling rather indifferent, but from part 3 onwards ive gotten more into the show with every week.

But, and there is always a but, i do agree somewhat with our dark sided Timelord friend here, that whats been shown so far seems more suited to a mini-series. At the moment i am unsure as to how the series is going to develop once they have actually solved the initial problems shown so far.

Previous Stargate shows have established a fairly major problem, in form of the Goa'uld, Wraith and Orii, than cannot be "solved". So far all of Universe's difficulties have revolved around the ship being old, which cannot sustain multiple series of episodes before it just gets dull. I dont really want to reach a point where an episode is based on "oh no, the water purifier has broken again! *dramatic music*"

So yeah, im still interested in the series and look forward to each episode, just a tad wary.

Its Friday night. If I'm gonna watch TV then Stargate is as good as any other choice.

I was wondering when longtime Stargate fans would talk about the lack of automatic weapons fire.

My interest has been increasing. I haven't been this excited about Stargate since Atlantis' very promising first season.

I have been watching, and really wanting to get hooked, but my interest remains lukewarm. I, too, found myself finding other small tasks to do last night while halfway watching SGU- it did not hold my attention. I am not sure that tension between the characters (at least as we've seen so far) and equipment breaking down (or running low on essential supplies) is going to do it for me. But we haven't had too many episodes. I haven't given up!

I keep waiting for the show to hook me, but it hasn't. It does have pretty solid production values, but those are only going to keep me watching for so long. I'm growing tired of the soapy melodrama back on Earth, and ham-fisted tension between the crew. The show deserves to be better than that, given the money being spent.

No.

Im liking that these gates dont always lead to a vancouver forest. Ita about time that a stargate doesnt always lead to a world perfect for human life, as most planets out there realistically wouldnt be.

I seem to like every other episode. Air I and III were great, while Air II was slow. I didn't care for Darkness, but Light was very enjoyable, and I didn't care much for Water. Assuming the pattern hold, I have high hopes for next week's episode; whatever it is...

Rush's raging assholishness and the Colonel Young character are keeping my interest.

I dunno about all these stone trips back to Earth, though.

Quite the opposite.

I never watched the other shows because I hated the lightweight tone of them. It was always about Macguyver cracking a funny postmodern pop culture one liner and forests in Vancouver.

I have missed having a "spaceship" show to watch and SGU is filling that niche perfectly. It feels dark(love that), dangerous(love that)and I don't know where it's going(REALLY love that).

If, as some people are calling for, SGU goes the silly and lightweight route the other shows apparently went, I will stop watching. For now, I am very happy with it!

-- Rush and Young are the highpoint of the series.
-- Eli and Scott and Chloe are already grating on my nerves.

:rommie:

That's the problem. Stargate has always been shoot-at-baddies-blow-up-C4. All the rest is just padding. Sure, we want more, but can the writers deliver? If not, they shouldn't change the stale-but-workable formula.

They changed the formula without having the ability to deliver on anything but the formula. For starters, the characters are a bore. If you don't have grabby characters, you got nuthin'.

I like what they're trying to do with it, but I'm just not caring as much as I should be.

I think a lot of the problem is that there's nothing really to make us give two shits about these people. There's flawed, and then there's downright unlikeable, and they've crossed over a little bit on characters like Scott and Chloe. Then there's "Why should I give a shit?". Rush, as good a character as he is, why should we give a shit about his obsession with Destiny?

As far as Eli...Eli, please pick up the white courtesy stone in the malfunctioning airlock. Eli, please pick up the white courtesy stone in the malfunction airlock. He's went from being the viewers "avatar"-- to use a term-- to being Wesely without the charm; now he's just an annoying gamer that needs to learn to shut the fuck up.
