Has Anyone Else's Interest Disappeared?

I like it so far, though it's flawed. It has promise. It's the first Stargate show that's actually watchable, for me. I tried both of the previous shows but gave up on them when the episodes just started boring me.

For all of its flaws, SG:U hasn't bored me at all. So I'll keep watching until it does.

I've missed the last couple, which is why I haven't been posting. I

I've never thought a lot of Stargate to begin with. The early years of SG-1 were charming, the fact that they would spoof themselves and have some fun with the characters was always a big point in its favor relative to more ambitious shows, and as long as Anderson was the lead it was usually entertaining. OTOH, the plotting was generally formulaic action adventure and the writing thematically flat and uninspired. SG-U has added very little appealing to the formula.

The first four I went and watched with a friend round his. First two we watched very eagerly. Next three we watched on the night.

Episode 6? We haven't watched it yet. We will, but neither of us seem very fussed to do so. And this isn't a good sign, as we're not quitting but it seems we're flagging.

It's. Just. So. Boring. On every level.

I'm losing interest to be honest. One thing I LOVED about Stargate was the exploration of different planets. Which why I started to dislike SG-1 after S6. Atlantis was just the same old crap with the wraith again and again and again.

Sgu? Bah they haven't done anything. Just go to a bloody planet. I won't question why they are humans in a different galaxy who speak. I promise!

Thats what i find hilarious. For years some fans have complained endlessly about how formulaic SG1/A episodes had become. And now when they have finally broken from said formula, the (mostly) same fans are crying out for the endless medieval-vancouver worlds to reappear.

To expand on my earlier post, given several episodes have passed since i made it- my interest continues to grow with each episode, and with the end of Earth im now eagerly looking forward to the next episodes. The fact that they are nipping offworld for a while should help sooth those missing the old formula.

We wanted a change, but that doesn't mean we wanted it changed to this. A more serious and mature Stargate was and still is a great idea, unfortunately we didn't get that. We instead got Darker and Edgier and Hotter and Sexier rolled into one. It reminds me so much of Torchwood series 1. Hopefully the writers will pull off a "Children of Earth" soon.

The exploration of planets could be hit and miss with SG1, particularly early on, but I loved the characters. They were vibrant, different, fun. Universe has a muddle of moaners, who are all so gray/similar that I don't even know their names, or their differences.

Heck no. I've got them all saved on my DVR. This is a different Stargate. Ha a much different feel to me and I like it quite a bit.

I had no problem with the whole "Visit a new planet" routine. It worked for TNG and it worked for SG-1. The problem i had was when they rehashed storylines or they couldn't be bothered to actually make something interesting. The mere fact that they are visiting a new planet isn't enough to hold my interest. The fact that they use the same generic villages in Atlantis put me off. I wanted something new not the same village is saw last season who suspiciously have medieval lifestyle while possessing very advanced technology.

I have missed having a "spaceship" show to watch and SGU is filling that niche perfectly. It feels dark(love that), dangerous(love that)and I don't know where it's going(REALLY love that).
While I don't love this show, I concur with that.

One of the things they were trying to do with VOY was say, "Shit, we're a hell of a long way from home, the situation's dire, but damn it, let's explore and make the most of this, we'll never have such a chance again!" And that's what they should be bringing to this.

Some time ago, I had an idea on the backburner of a ship from Earth being captured by a giant ship from Andromeda collecting 'samples' from our galaxy to take home. The stories revolved around meeting other species/cultures, and finding a way off before they big ship began the crossing back to Andromeda. I've been gazumped! :( But that was going to be one of the points of that, the finding of so much stuff in one place and making the most of it while they can.

If they can get there, that sense of wonder, while maintaining the 'adult' tone, it could be really good, one doesn't have to exclude the other.

I definitely wanted a change to the formula but always stipulated...IF the crew in charge were capable of pulling it off. Which I never thought they were. And know I know - they aren't. Clearly they are trying, they just don't have the talent or imagination to do it. They are flailing and failing badly.

What I really wanted is for the whole franchise to be taken away from the current writers/producers and handed over to people who could do something worthwhile with it.

Just look at how Trek has rebounded since being passed from the dreadful duo of Berman & Braga to the far more competent hands of JJ Abrams and his gang. Someday, I hope for the same for Stargate - the basic idea is decent, and many good ideas have been broached over the past decade-plus. There's a ton of excellent material for a competent bunch to make something great from, someday.

But first, we have to get the current crew to fail so utterly that Stargate is cancelled, the current idiots are fired, and after a few years, MGM or whoever owns it can get it into their head to do one of those re-imagining jobbers. That is the only hope I see for poor Stargate. Really, it deserves so much better treatment than it's gotten.

See, I'm not a basher. I want Stargate to live up to its potential at frakkin' long last. :)

Oh god no. You serious? Because personally I enjoyed Season 4 of ENT ALOT more then Trek XI. That comes from a guy who can't stand B&B since Voyager days.

After "Earth", yeah kinda. I'm not sure I can stomach watching another episode. There were a couple of moments that tickled me, but overall, ugh!

I can see what they're trying to do and whatnot, but there's gotta be a healthy balance between the mindless, cheesy stupidity of Atlantis and the pretentious, snoozefest soap opera of BSG.

Honestly, while I did enjoy and watch SG-1 when it was on Showtime; and liked it (it REALLY went downhill when Skiffy took over); and I loathed SG:A (wow lets make a new show with the worst actors we can find - sorry the cast just plain blew, had no chemistry and were ALL annoying); I find myself lifing SG:U more than I liked the early SG-1 series.

I lik that while they ARE all flawed characters, they'r not so totally flawed that they can't work together when a situation calls for it. They all come off as more 'human' to me for that. And as annoying as I found the 'teen genius' (I was expecting a Wesley Crusher clone - ugh!); even he is not bad as a character.

I really expected not to like this show, but as the episodes have progressed, I find it growing on me, in a way that SG-1 didn't.

Yeah bro good acting is totally boring, needs more splosions but MUST BE SRS BUSINESS 2! RITE?

SGU is the show for you my fine feathered fiend.

Are you talking about the show which had an episode that contained not only annoyingly crap teenage drama but rape?

I'm loving it. I like most of the characters, enjoy the approach they're taking in unraveling the ship's mysteries, and am pleased with the new approach. I'm not anxious to watch sex scenes or Scott and Chloe getting all mushy, but I'll take the bad with the good.

Feh. Stargate: Galactica without Cylons, with Lost In Space's "he's with us but can we trust him?" scientist and all the dramatic flare of the worst Earth 2 episode ever filmed.

Give me interesting alien villains, or stop wasting my time. I'd rather watch Sanctuary at this point--words I never thought I'd be saying.
