Costume Revealed - BBC Breakfast 8:45 Tomorrow!

Are these two short or is the TARDIS getting taller?

The eclectic combination of formal elements - the suit - worn casually and paired with things like the trainers was itself a modern look.

Plus, Amy Pond reminds me of Zoe. :D

Okay, buddy, you're going to have to pony up an explanation for how on this. Outside of young, female and attractive, I just don't see the Zoe thing.

I wouldn't have called Tennant's look 'modern' except for maybe the trainers.

I don't agree; geek chic was quite fashionable a few years back; there were loads of young people with those clothes.

The look is very Jarvis Cocker, so it's more than a few years back. At the very least the look was a good ten years old when Tennant became the Doctor, and the individual elements of it are all much older (except maybe the trainers) which is the same as what you can say for Smith's look...and bits of Smith's look are potentially quite fashionable according to this:

But at the end of the day the Doctor isn't supposed to look fashionable.

Just thought, I hope we get a Smith picking out his costume scene. I'm imagining he'll dress up, smile at the mirror then notice his trousers are too long and have to roll them up

Like others here, I'm not exactly blown away by the new costume, but I'm sure it will grow on me.

Actually my problem isn't so much the basic look, it's with how... cheap and generic it all looks. It looks like he got his outfit at a freakin thrift store or something. I mean, those pants are just awful. lol

I think that's one of my favorite parts about the costume. I'm only a recent Who fan (didn't start seriously watching until Tennant's first season), but I think I prefer the Doctor to not look so stylish or fashionable.

But that's technically the point...the TARDIS wardrobe room is essentially one big charity shop:lol:

That's kind of the entire point you seem to be missing.

It's been lost in the drive to make Tennant look "cool" and "trendy" but the Doctor is supposed to be someone who doesn't care what he's wearing.

Are Amy's clothes currently fashionable? They look pretty retro to me... though, I'm admittedly out of touch with what 20 year old girls are into these days.

It's not necessarily that the Doctor doesn't care what he's wearing (try telling that to the Third Doctor!), but that the following personality generally goes against the grain of his previous incarnation. Thus, where Tennant was the slick, pretty-boy, Smith looks to be the awkward geek. It's the same with pretty much every incarnation, to an extent...

Yeah, some people it seems expected Tennant to regenerate into Jack Davenport who would have kept the same outfit

Yeah I realize that, but it still looked like some effort was made to make the earlier costumes (as crazy or simple as they were) to at least look professionally made, or modified a bit to suit the specific actor.

But this looks like something Smith literally grabbed off a hangar in the thrift store and put on.

Hey, some of the new pictures show the Doctor wearing a watch. I can't for the life of me remember many Doctors who have worn a watch. Nine, maybe? The Seventh Doctor used a neat digital pocketwatch / scanner device...

It's always interesting seeing the Doctor with a time piece, being a guy who rarely stays long enough to need one. Anyone have a record?

Mark

Eccles is the first one I remember wearing a wristwatch. McGann had the pocket-watch...

But at the end of the day the Doctor isn't supposed to look fashionable.

Says who?

First Doctor's clothes.
Second Doctor's clothes.
(Third Doctor was sort of fashionable for the late 60's / early 70's)
Fourth Doctor's clothes.
Fifth Doctor's clothes
Sixth Doctor's clothes.
Seventh Doctor's clothes.
Eighth Doctor's clothes.

Meanwhile, you have the Ninth and Tenth Doctor's clothes, which look just fine.

There's nothing inherent to the Doctor that requires him to not be fashionable.
