Will SGU have...clip shows?!

I'd rather they spend even more money on the awesome episodes and cut the clip show altogether. So the season is one episode shorter...who cares?

They have to deliever however many eps. they have in their contract, so no they can't run short.

Thanks for the revelation. :techman:

To go a step further:

When the contracts are cut, rarely does the production team have an idea on how expensive each episode is going to be, especially the big event ones (season openers, finales and, in SG's case, mid-season two-parters).

They may have a general idea of what they will do in the season, but they really cannot say what sort of money they will need as the season rolls along, especially by the end of a season.

Also, if they decide to cut an episode or two as a way to save money, it probably won't work out that way in the end. For example, if they wanted to do 15, instead of the usual 20 episodes, then the network/production company/whoever will only give then enough money for 15 episodes. The producers will still be in the same spot.

This is all true, but it doesn't explain why they make clip shows instead of good old bottle shows, which always have more potential to be interesting to me. Not that Stargate has made bad clips shows--I'd say most of them are the most innovative clip shows I've seen on television. Some are actually entertaining! I suppose the writers are more comfortable making clip shows.

Well they can work to catch people up on some of the events that have occured so that may have something to do with it.

^ That is a good point. "Inauguration" and "Disclosure" really seemed to be themed clip shows.

And, besides, we need clip shows, so we can continue to see that scene in "The Fifth Race" where Jack meets the Asgard. It isn't a clip show with out it! :p

 Wasn't that clip in the main titles for a while, too?

These clip episodes do function to get the audience up to speed. Battlestar Galactica did the same thing, with The Story So Far and What the Frak is Going on? But those were not regular episodes. I believe Lost did something similar.

They should do a clip show where all the clips are brand new, like adventures that we never saw for some reason (kinda like what was done with the "Previously on" bit during "200", but taken to the extreme). :techman:
