Will SGU have...clip shows?!

I know they claim that this show is gonna be new and different, but the writers from SG1 and SGA definitely loved to throw in a clipshow every season or two. You think we'll have to deal with that on SGU?

I'm sure they will eventually.

To be fair, though, SGA really didn't do the clip show thing all that much. They had one in season one and then, to the best of my knowledge, not again until season 5.

That is still 2 out of 5 seasons, which to me is way too many, considering there are plenty of shows out there that never do any!

The Clip Shows were more of a Sci-Fi demanded thing rather than what TPTB wanted. Although, the clip shows usually contained more original material than clips.

I haven't seen the clip show from the fifth season (or any of the fifth season), but Letters from Pegasus barely had any clips and had a big set piece on the planet the Wraith were culling. The writers/producers did pretty well with the material at hand.

On the other hand, Battlestar Galactica never did a clip show (though one was planned during the second season until Resurrection Ship was expanded to two hours). Why does Stargate go over budget forcing them to make a clip show so often? They did it five times on SG-1 and twice on Atlantis. Where was all the money going? Couldn't a creative bottle show have solved the issue just as easily?

Probably because SG-1 was an already expensive show that Sci-Fi bought in the middle of its run and got continually expensive as time went on. BSG had the advantage of being a brand new show that Sci-Fi didn't have to spend as much for, thereby not needing for BSG to cut costs with a clip show. I bet if BSG continued to go on, Sci-Fi would have forced a clip show to counter increasing costs.

That's certainly possible. But why the clip shows in Stargate: Atlantis, then?
Well in season 1 they had a smaller budget and they wanted money for the final.
I do not know who had the bigger CGI budget or if one show had more CGI shots that they could reuse.
Also does anyone know the Budget for each show.

And don't forget the 'aliens take over their bodies' episodes. Wouldn't be Stargate without one of those. ;)

We also need an episode or two where somebody tries to shut down the dangerous Stargate program.

Eh, I think we're over that story at this point. That was only really relevant when Earth wasn't yet being threatened by giant spaceships.

The IOA episodes have replaced the shutting down the Stargate episodes.

They'll do a clip show wen they contact Earth at some point. I'd put money on it.

This is a report of our mission since we've been stranded here 8 months ago...

clip...clip...clip...

I agree there will be some committee meeting( Probably by the IOA) reading SG:U mission reports

Or one of the team members is put on trial for a crime and recalls past events

Judge- Have you ever lost a team member Colonel?

Colonel? Colonel?

Flashback to when one of the team member is injured
;)

Oh, be nice. :) You don't give the SG writers enough credit on this account. Nearly all the previous clip shows have been done very well and cleverly to the point that you occasionally forget that it is a clip show, because the framing device interesting and/or usually propels the story arc forward.

If they do a clip show, I suspect it'll be in vein with how the previous ones were executed.

They did two over five seasons, one of which was hardly a clip show, imo. Also, as others pointed out, those clip shows came right before or right on the heels of big effects laden episodes. They needed more money for Episode X, so they reduced the budget for Episode Y by turning it into a clip show.

I'd rather they spend even more money on the awesome episodes and cut the clip show altogether. So the season is one episode shorter...who cares?

They have to deliever however many eps. they have in their contract, so no they can't run short.

Networks have been known to reduce episode orders...Recall that NBC's Surface had it's initial 22 order cut to 18. But I'd guess the studio couldn't make that call on their own.
