Does this actress look like a younger Angelina Jolie?

If she was fat and we were telling her to cut the humbergers or get her ass some exercise I'm sure all hell would have broken loose and threads would be getting closed.

I don't agree with either the thin or fat comments in this case, but I don't see how closing down topics helps anything. People need to discuss the issues openly (and preferably civilly) in order to convey their point of view to others. Shutting down lines of discussion accomplishes nothing but hiding away the issues at hand and letting resentments fester.

To make myself clear, I was not asking for the thread to be closed. Not at all.

What I was going for, was to mention my annoyance at the different approaches as far as the 2 sides of this coin are concerned.

I've seen quite a few overweight related threads go south around here in the past. And there was an overwhelming sensitivity on anything that might be considered insulting towards overweight people.

But somehow nobody really cares when there are shouts about thin people (naturally thin or otherwise). You know, stuff like "eat a sandwich" "get some meat on you bones" etc etc

Anyway, I don't want to derail this thread I just wanted to make clear what I meant earlier.

Eh, I do care and I was quite shocked at some of the early responses to this thread. I just don't normally chime in on these sorts of threads. I don't think she looks like Jolie except around the eyes when she layers on the eyeliner, but it's the liner that bears resemblance, not the woman.

As for the comments on her weight and body shape and general health ... who knows? She looks fine to me. A bit thin in a few of the pictures, but that doesn't necessarily mean she's unhealthy. Some people have naturally small bone structures. She's not in that stage of looking like a skeleton where you can fairly easily say she could do with more calories. Whatever we might think here, I'm pretty sure only her doctor is really qualified to judge the state of her health.

And she's not fat. She's also not in any sort of immediate danger of being fat. Good lord, people. Apply your standards to yourself and not to others.

Oh good lord, and now the opposite extreme from the "too thin" comments. By what bizarre metric could she possibly be considered to be on the verge of being fat? The anorexic supermodel scale?

No wonder so many young women have a jacked up body image with wildly mixed messages like this.
I don't think my opinion is that extreme at all; as I already mentioned, she looks good on the latest picture:

If she'd lose weight, she'd become like this:

Looks underweight (and unhealthy) to me. If I'd judge her by the anorexic scale, she'd be fine here -- but she's not; she looks too thin on this picture, at least, in my opinion. But that could be the lighting.

And if she'd gain weight, she'd become like this:

Look at the area between her hips and her middle (even though she hides it by not standing parallel to the camera), that fat doesn't look in any way healthy to me; she might not be very fat, but at the least she's chubby here. Either that, or her hotpants is 3 sizes too small.

So I'll reiterate; she looks good now, but it seems as if she's had some hormone problems in her teens. Like most women have had. :D

What color is the sky in your world?

There's so much wrong with your comments here that I don't even know where to begin. What appeals to you or not is entirely subjective, but I seriously hope you don't tell the women you know things like this. That's just a terrible and grossly unhealthy attitude.

Well, I'm pretty sure I (and others) cared, or else I wouldn't have said anything about the "too thin" comments on the previous page. ;)

No derailment at all. In fact this is a far more interesting discussion than whether or not this girl looks like Angelina Jolie. The OP doesn't even post again after the initial post in his two threads so far, so I doubt we're going to upset him. Continue if you like.

How so? I think it's unhealthy to push someone in either direction; whether it's into overweight territory or anorexic territory. Both are quite unhealthy, if you ask me. What's wrong with that? I really think you're misinterpreting these posts -- either that, or I'm definitely misinterpreting yours.

And what's wrong with telling women a honest appraisal of their looks (unless they're just fishing for compliments, obviously)? I always do that; and mostly I haven't had a negative reaction on my honest comments -- rather, they seem to appreciate it, or they would stop asking my opinion when we're out shopping and such.

Sorry my other thread got closed so i am saying it here, Whilst we are on this subject of body image i was thinking about mischa barton she is a perfect example of a girl who has lost, gained weight and lost again which photo do you guys think she looks best in? i think the first! Disullision tell me which you like as well

I like the 3rd picture best.

Is your "thing" going to be posting pics of beautiful women?

^^^^^
I can think of worse "things" people can have. :D

Just don't start any "Babe of the Week" kinds of threads -- that's Aragorn's territory. ;)

The first picture is the only one where she looks like a normal person. The second one is awful, but that has more to do with her outfit than anything.

The third pic, too me, looks photoshopped. Her head is too big, and I feel like they cut away parts of her to make her look thinner. Even if they didn't, it's still a terrible picture.

No, I don't think she looks like Angelina Jolie at all. She's all right I guess, but she's got a bit too much presence around her middle though, if you look at the 5th picture:

n6fg2h.jpg

Either that, or her pants are way too tight. Work out girl, don't be a muscled broad, but do change those flabby arms and flabby middle into something a little tighter.

Flabby arms and middle? You're kidding, right?
Come on, look at that picture. Instead of 2 buttocks, she's got six; four on the back and two on the side. That's four too much for me; they're bulging out of her pants as if they're trying to escape and have a beer with their buttock-mates. The hips are supposed to be the widest point on a female's lower body, not the middle.

She seems to look a lot better on the latest (25yr) picture though. She almost looks underweight on the one above. Seems like she's had a bit of a hormone problem.

Some people here almost sound like force-feeders, the way they go on about "she could gain some more pounds!". She's got a good figure now, looking at that latest picture. Any more and she'd become fat.

What part of your posts calling her chubby on the verge of being fat with flabby arms and stomach and possibly a hormone problem did I misinterpret, exactly? Please, enlighten me.

You don't think there's anything odd about you calling a girl who 90% of the posters in this topic called "too thin" chubby? That doesn't raise any red flags that maybe your perception of things is way off? I disagree with the too thin comments myself, because she seems to be perfectly healthy to me for a petite woman, but she's by far closer to falling under the too thin category than ever coming anywhere close to being considered chubby.

The problem with your "honest appraisal" is that it creates a wildly unrealistic body image for women to live up to. You may think you're helping them to stay healthy, but if your judgment is as poor as it is with this girl then I dare say you might cause someone to have real issues with their self-image some day if you haven't already.

You had me up to the last sentence. How about "she's in the realm of normal"?

And the problem with everyone else's "honest appraisal" is exactly the same.

Believe me, those of us on the thin end of the scale--those of us who are "underweight" but healthy--struggle with self-esteem just as much as those who are overweight but healthy.

There's really only so many times you can hear a description of yourself as "having the body of a 10 year-old boy" before it starts to hurt.

And I certainly don't expect anyone to applaud me. After all, I'm simply a 52 year-old woman who walks 5 miles a day, does daily yoga and surfs before going to work in the morning--and weighs 112 at 5'5". I wouldn't have a clue what it means to be healthy.

Locutus was saying if she was close to either extreme, it would be the skinny one. He himself said that she seems perfectly healthy, as I have bolded in his statement above. He really didn't need to add in another statement about her being in the "realm of normal" as it would have been redundant.

It's the "by far closer to falling under the too thin category" that igs me.

Sorry! I know it's not a popular opinion! :)

Well ... isn't it true, from an objective standpoint? If one were to check her BMI, wouldn't her number be closer to the "underweight" category than the "obese" one?

Thin or skinny shouldn't equal being unhealthy, however.
