Aventine

IIRC, in the alternate future of "Twilight," the Enterprise had a shield system donated by the andorians.

Indeed they did, and I'm sure dialogue stated the shields were down before the bridge was decaptiated.

Back to the Aventine... So, WERE there any descriptions of the bridge, and the ship's interior for that matter, in any of the novels so far? I've only skimmed two of the Destiny trilogy.

Since they tend to stay pretty similar for the most part, I'd figure it probably looks like the Luna (this is an unofficial design from the guy who designed the ship) and Sovereign bridges.

Which isn't bad persé; perhaps Starfleet doesn't want high technology vessels any longer, just vessels they can build fast and cheap.

Arent the Vesta class one of the most advanced class of ships they have, and pretty stocked full of "high technology"?

I like the design, sleek and powerful. I like the Aventine and Dax too, quite happy to read more books with them in.

Could be. Still, to me, something with very elegant, thin lines and a pearly white hull somehow speaks of advanced technology to me. Elegant enough that they have a material science so advanced, that there are no seams, no panels and they can make holes in the hull appear and disappear at will. As is the one redeeming feature the Enterprise refit seemed to have.

But that's just me. Now I wouldn't mind if they made the ships more angular, like the B-51. But that's simply style; the design of the Sovereign (for example) simply looks blocky, as if everything was a rush job. That's why I'm a little bit disappointed; I expected to see some more details compared to the sketch, but definately not so much extra detail; you can hardly see the actual hull. And the shape itself is beyond elegant!

What? First off, the Enterprise refit is gorgeous. But the one thing I don't like about it is that it replaces the seamless, panel-less hull of the TOS Enterprise with a hull that's very clearly made up of thousands of distinct panels. And I have no idea what you're talking about with regard to holes appearing and disappearing. The only holes we saw in the TMP Enterprise were when it was in drydock and didn't yet have all its panels in place. Other than that, all its docking ports, doors, and other openings were clearly delineated.

First of all, thanks for all the opinions! Glad a lot of people like it, and some dont! (What else would be the challenge for a next project!) :)
I will reread this thread for questions later this week, right now I need sleep! Just wanted to answer this before I go on 1 ear:

After reading about the Aventine saving the Enterprise E, I knew this ship somehow had to look harder, almost over the top. As I normally design things not so much over the top, I really had to force myself to do so.

If I ever do an Enterprise F it would be clean, minimal and glossy. 100% different then the Aventine. I believe the Aventine is a traditional "series loyal" ship. It has almost all the features of the ships before it, and a couple of new ones. It was never intended to become as elegant as a Galaxy class but more like a workhorse like as the Excelsior is. Considering the timeframe I had, that was the only direction to go.

I also dont believe that 400 years from now we need to put panels or armor everywhere. Forced large block replication would probably replace traditional platework. I used it before (see the 2008 SOTL runabout image) so perhaps the Federation was already experimenting with new building methods on smaller ships.

I have put together a list of changes. If time permits I will apply them. (In time for the book cover perhaps.) See it as a Post Destiny refit. :)

Zzzzzzzz

I understand; it's really the only direction you could've taken under the circumstances. It's actually a very attractive ship; the only reason I'm a bit disappointed is because the sketch touched me more then the final design does due to the Sovereign-style paneling and texturing.

That runabout is beautiful! If you ever do the Enterprise F, please let me know. :D

The holes thing was simply what I imagine futuristic technology to be; what I imagine a seamless hull would need, or you couldn't actually have it seamless with external features like sensors, weapons, shieldgrid and the like.

And I know the Refit has a shieldgrid and aztec pattern, but ignore that and it's a lot more glossy then the original E was. That's what I meant.

^It had a pearlescent paint job, yes, but I don't see what that has to do with being seamless.

'cause Christopher we're talking about the FUTURE where everything will be clean, shiny, seamless and either voice activated or touch-screen. Everything will be flowing organic curves, and bright cheerful colors.

The basic RBG pallet and 45/90 degree angles, that's so working class... I mean 20th century.

(yes I am being silly, but really now folks does it just boil down to "future = teh shiny or what? )

I like it. Looks like the natural result of the E-E and VOY having a love-child (well, VOY was alone a real long time, and ships have needs, you know...) ;)

Mostly E-E like, which fits with the timeframe, and consistent design. The saucer has some VOY-like aspects to it (although maybe upside down). Looks to fit in pretty well with the fleet, yet starting to incorporate what they learned from the DQ. I like it.

I love the new design. I remember there was a thread on here awhile back about the possibility of Aventine books. Is there any news about that? I would love to see this ship on the cover. With Ezri of course. She is too cute not to put on the cover!

^There aren't any exclusive Aventine books planned, but the Aventine and its crew will play a role in the 2010 Typhon Pact miniseries.

To borrow a a line from Trek XI, 'I like this ship!" I would not want to be on the recieving end of the beating this ship could give you.

Oh, I thought I'd heard about one of the Typhon Pact books being Aventine-specific, but maybe I misunderstood. Isn't one of them supposed to feature Aventine on the cover?

Either way, hopefully the Typhon Pact books sell well enough that TPTB decide an Aventine-specific line is lucrative. :techman:

Then here's my vote for something. It’s an interesting crew with endless possibilities & I don’t mind a bit Ezri Dax as Captain.

Yeah it will be on a cover, but AFAIK the miniseries will feature at least Aventine, and the E-E. I'm not sure if anything has been said for sure about whether or not Titan or the DQ fleet will be coming back for it.

Wow, what a gorgeous ship, I have got to get current on Trek lit. But I just bought about 180 other scifi books off Craigslist and I don't think I could explain to the wife why I need more.

I love the design, it was simialar to how I pictured it in my head while reading the Destiny books and KRAD's followup. Maybe the engines were a bit bulkier in my thoughts to accomodate the slip-stream drive.

Can't wait to see some other angles of her.

what are the odd of getting an insert of the Aventine in the Typhon Pact line next year similar to Vanguard book 1 and Titan book 4??
