Aventine

Nonsense. Deck One is the location of a rotating restaurant, where you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the saucer section while you dine on some of the finest delicacies of the quadrant.
Man, if I like Losing The Peace half as much as I enjoy your posting, it'll be one of the best Trek books of the year.

Yes.

It's has a crew of one meter. The deck count is 2 to the power 20. The tonnage is 15 nanometers. The length is one kilogram and the width is 20 Robau.
And it can make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.
Um, isn't a parsec a unit of distance, not time?

Yes it is. Quite a famous error, that quote from "A New Hope". I don't follow the Star Wars universe, so I don't know if there was ever any retcon explanation.

The Kessel Run goes by a black hole cluster called the Maw. By skirting even closer to the Maw than any sane man would do, Han Solo made the Kessel Run in less distance than is standard. It's an odd way of phrasing it, but using distance instead of speed indicates that one has the balls to skirt a black hole cluster (rather than just having really good engines on your ship). Presumably, other smugglers would know what Solo was talking about and be suitably impressed (on the inside, of course--all boasts are to be met with scoffing and exagerrated one-upmanship amongst smugglers).

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

^ Trent beat me to it.

It was worked out in the Star Wars: The Expanded Universe and explained.

Long story short the Kessel Run goes through "The Maw" which has several black holes in it. The standard Kessel Run is 18 parsecs and if a ship falls off course even slightly they'd be sucked into a black hole. The Falcon had a faster hyperdrive which was illegal; so it could actually go on a path that was only 12 parsecs because it was twice as fast as a standard ship.

It's strangely proportioned, how the warp nacelles shoot off so far behind, but I quite like it, especially the curious paint job. Don't get quite what's going on with the deflector...

As a first reveal of the design I think it works, but I hope if we get another image some time we can see her in action (alongside the Titan maybe!).

^I like it!:techman: Looks fast and sexy! I was about to ask whether there would be a design competition for the Aventine in the same way there was for the Titan, but I needn't bother now!

That line was also spoken my Luke/Chris in the family guy SW episode "Blue Harvest". Which was full of great one liners like that.

Now as to Aventine/Vesta Class, someone has to have some specs on it... length, crew, ect...

I've read a comment from George Lucas that it was an intentional error put in to show that Han Solo was a blowhard who didn't really know what he was talking about. But Lucas is known for historical revisionism in his comments about Star Wars.

As I recall, that explanation works fairly well with the expression on Obi-Wan's face when Han says it.

Well... wow. Thanks. :D

I'm afraid the light bantering style of the BBS would not have worked too well with post-disaster theme of LtP, though.

Yes, it looks ruined now. Looks like someone just swashed up the ship. I'm glad the design along with all the colors included turned out great.

I love the Aventine. And I loved it when I first saw it, it didn't have to grow on me like the new Enterprise. I wish I had the same reaction to it the first time I saw it as I did with the Aventine.

Now I really want to see this on screen and in action! If only my fantasy of a Destiny tv miniseries would come true :).

Very, very nice job to the Aventine designer...I haven't bought a SOTL calendar in a few years and this image alone sells me on the 2010 version. :)

That's exactly what I was quoting. I was trying to be funny.... Apparently I fail at it though. :rommie:
