Were the Borg Ever in DS9?

Just curious were there any episodes featuring the Borg?

I know the Dominion became the bad guys for DS9, but were there any Borg heavy or even seen in episodes?

Thanks.

Nope. They only appeared in the opening flasback scene in Emissary, when we find out how Sisko lost his wife. After that, never again, and thankfully so! -- RR

The only episodes in DS9 that had the Borg was the first episode " Emissary."

In a flashback in the pilot, but I don't think they were in it apart from that. Personally I'm glad that DS9 had its own big baddies that it didn't share with the other Trek shows.

Definitely one of the best uses of the borg ever in trek, tho, because they really were impersonal and unstoppable, as they should be.

the borg quickly became the borg queen or other individual/rebel borg. complete bullshit. the whole purpose of the borg was to have a hive mind, impersonal enemy.

i hate what happened to the borg.

sorry for the rant.

I agree with you urbandk.

Watching the VOY episodes espically. bleck.

Currently the two parter episode "Unimatrix Zero" with the 'dreaming' Borg and the Voyager ability to detect Borg ships and the Borg to not see them is just like... WTF, huh?

At any rate, I had a feeling they weren't in the DS9 story, interesting but I see why.

The only episode(s) of Voyager I liked that featured the Borg were Scorpion parts I and II.

Even people on this forum that don't like Voyager tend to like those episodes, they were among Voyager's best and were good action pieces. It was the last time we saw "TNG style" Borg. It was after that (and the intro of Seven but not necessarily because of it) that Voyager really dumbed them down.

I just watched that two parter, it was interesting.

But even TNG strayed away from the 'tradional' Borg they created with "Hew" and the "Descent" two parter in TNG pretty quickly. :(

The Borg make an interesting cameo in the opening chapters Peter David's DS9 novel The Siege. It offers a good explanation of why the Borg never turned up during the series.

Yeah, the Borg were only actually seen on DS9 in the pilot. Though the first original tie-in novel had a bit at the start where something affects the wormhole and it violently rips apart any ship that tries to travel through it - which occurs at the same time a long Borg vessel wandered across it and went through it, getting torn to shreds in the process. The characters all speculate that the Collective would then consider the wormhole to be something that they should avoid. Actually, now that I think about it, it may have been the Borg ship specifically that caused the disturbance...

ETA: Darn, beaten to it.

The upgraded look and tech I.E when they injected people to assimulate in First Contact was good but after they got their asses handed by Species 8472 in Voyager they went to crap.

In fact in the early drafts of the First Contact screenplay there was no Queen. IIRC the studio wanted the enemy to have a 'face' hence the Queen and her retcon with Locutus in flashbacks.

Where's PKTrekGirl?

I remember a thread months/years ago where some people calculated that DS9 was 99.8% (or something like that) Borg-free. It was worked out via minutes they were onscreen or something.

EDIT- Found her sig. "DS9 on DVD - Now 99.923% Borg-Free!"

A DS9 showrunner has been quoted as saying that the DS9 staff were told by TPTB to keep their grubby hands off the Borg because Voyager was going to use them, but he didn't mind because he likes DS9's bad guys better. :techman:

Also, thanks to the one Borg appearance in flashback, J.G. Hertzler is one of the very few non-regulars to appear in both the first and last episodes. :D

Thankfully Voyager and those magic shields had a lion's share of the Borg.

The Borg knows they'd get that ass kicked by the Dominion

Eh, well considering how the snobby attitude the DS9 team hold towards TNG it's not surprising they didn't use the Borg. It's like how they were PO'ed that the Defiant was used in FC at all.

I don't think there was any "snobbery" involved on the part of TPTB in DS9. I think they were more focused on trying to do their own thing as opposed to being a TNG clone. I would say that if anything DS9 had more of an affection for TOS, not sure if that counts as snobbery. But to the topic at hand.

They obviously only appeared once dureing "The Emissary" and I think may have been mentioned four times in the series run. Personally I'm glad they didn't use the Borg, they had newer and better stuff, lol.
