Gay Exorcism!?!?!

Wow, exorcisms. Can we all just..stop believing in magic already?

And I'm not talking about Clarke's Law style magic either.

I'm referring to the "two toads in a kettle" variety.

As it stands, really, apart from a flailing desire to not break my parents' hearts and the examples of acceptance set forth by people like J. Allen and Mark de vries, I really don't see what religion has to offer me in my life other than hypocrisy, shameful discriminatory attitudes, misbegotten and retellings of ancient history and sheer stupidity.

I like some of the stories. :p

As enough has been said already, I won't go into it further. But my horror did grow when I read the remarks made by Brent; I didn't expect anyone to actually believe such things in today's society. Makes me a bit ashamed of my fellow Humans, if you ask me.

It um ... didn't make me overly thrilled by religion reading them.

Thing is; it's not the religion that's making people like that say and/or believe those things. It's simply an excuse they use in order to be able to say and/or believe it. If it wasn't for religion, it would be something else.

"Gays are sinners! The pattern in my lawn says so! I've read it very clearly!"

I don't know what it is but it's sad nonetheless. :(

I hope that one day people will see what makes us all different and embrace those differences and not try to vilify those differences.

Ugh, I look at that video and wonder what could ever have lead this poor person to do this, what lies, manipulation, belittlement and ostracization could have possibly have confused them and made them so unhappy and self loathing they would partake in this disgusting sham, and then I read the opinions of somebody like Brent, and I know. :(

This is a sad sad world we live in.

The beautiful thing, my dear sir, is that God isn't limited to one understanding, to one interpretation. Where some may say "God does not allow this because it is evil", others will say, "God will bless this because it is beautiful". Even though I have devoted my life to understanding God, She is still unknowable in more than the tiniest of ways. I learn about God through what I see of the universe, of what I see in His creation. Love transcends our myopic understanding of God, and where we are blind, love clearly sees. Love is not blind, love knows what it wants, and God is love, of that I am most certain.

Thank you. And i would like to think that God wants us all to be happy, and for me to be happy, it would be with a man.

As I stated above, freewill is amazing, and it is surely your choice to do so. I've simply offered another choice, one that leads to true happiness, true peacefulness, and a love that is unconditional. I know what my choice is.

But not for me? Do you realize how that came off as horribly insensitive and just ... insulting? I can't be happy being what i am? I'll tell you one thing, when i meet the person that i love more than life itself, i will be truly happy. The only thing that would make me happier is being able to marry him.

True love is such a rare and beautiful thing. Some people go their whole lives seeking and never finding it. But to be a person of homosexual preferences and to find that true love, yet for it to be denied by close-minded bigots who use the law and religion to try to destroy that love, I have to think it would be so very depressing. No one is forcing those people to become gay. Why can't they just live and let live and be happy that there is more love in the world? I hope you find it Shameless. And I hope the SCOTUS rules on that Prop 8 case in the favor of freedom, making same sex marriages legal and recognized by the entire country. That way another friend of the board, mostlyharmless, can return to the USA with his husband as well as you being able to marry the person you love and choose to marry at some point in the future.

I am sure that if John Lennon were still alive he would revisit and alter an old anthem of his so we could all sing "All we are saying is give love a chance."

With people like you, maybe the fight isn't hopeless after all. :)

What i still can't understand is how my gay marriage will adversely affect someone's straight marriage. All i'm asking is to be treated the same. To have the same rights and privileges as everyone else. Is that so bad to ask? What was it that Chancellor Gorkon say about the Undiscovered Country? Seems fitting for this.

Back in the 2008 elections, i was so happy that Obama won. The only thing that would have made the night even better would have been for Prop. 8 to be defeated, and when that didn't happen, i went to bed crying. We came so close; we actually had the right to get married, only for it to be taken away from us. It simply wasn't fair. :(

Please, everybody, remember not to attack your fellow Posters, no matter how much you disagree with them. Thank you.

As for the "exorcism," one can only hope that this video gets a lot of publicity. The more people understand the ugliness of the anti-Gay movement, the more sympathy and support they will have for Homosexuals.

If he is 18, he has the right to do what he wants in regards to an Exorcism. It seems these activists only want to throw a fit when it involves gayness, yet they are quiet about other forms of exorcism.

I'm not quiet about it. I think it's barbaric. People have died from exorcisms, and all this does is push the gay community further from the church. Would you feel welcome in a church like that if you were gay? I wouldn't.

Apparently this kid was desperate to do something. Maybe he felt (rightly so in my opinion) that his lifestyle was incompatible with Catholicism. Who knows?

My major problem with religion is that if people truly believe that God created everything, why is it so hard to believe that God also created homosexuals?

God did indeed create homosexuals. Same as he created everyone else. However, many kids are born with certain abnormalities that they may wish to address. Or their parents may wish to address for them.

Anyway, whether it's a genetic abnormality, lifestyle choice, environmental, or a combination of factors, God did create them and He loves them just as he loves everyone else. And when I say it's incompatible with the Catholicism I mean that if someone were a serial adulterer their lifestyle would fall under the same category.

things like this are why i hate Christians. what happened to Universal Love, Brotherhood and Tolerance you homophobic, intolerant jerks?!

Thanks.

The thing is is that I used to be a stupid dope about this as recently as fifteen years ago. It took my sister's ex-husband coming out, who was a friend and co-worker of mine for years before they were married, along with a cousin whom I realized at around the same time was always out since we were toddlers to bring the subject home. Their sexual preferences didn't change who they were. And by talking with them, I realized that their sexual preferences were as natural for them as my heterosexual preferences are for me. I realized it wasn't a "choice" anymore than my own sexual preferences were a choice. I realized their sexuality had no bearing on my own. It was not a threat to me.

And in that realization came the clarity to see that there is yet another group of people being denied their basic freedoms. That of two consenting adults entering a legally binding union with the person they love and wish to spend their lives with. Who cares if it is a coupling of man and woman, man and man, or woman and woman? What bearing does it have on anyone outside of that marriage? NONE! In my eyes, it can only be a good thing for there to be more true love in the world. And for them to be denied that freedom, how long before other freedoms are denied to others in the same name? It was then that I realized we had so much further to go with civil rights to insure equal rights and freedom for all.

So yes, if someone like I was can come around to real understanding as I have, you have real cause for hope. If I could do it, I know that eventually everyone can if they only open their minds to it. And I promise not to stop fighting for those equal rights for all until the job is truly done.

Okay, this is what I'm talking about: Flaming. Don't do it. Express opinions, rebut opinions, but do not call people names. I don't want to have to give any Warnings.
