My journey in Deep Space

I can't believe it either, its almost over too.

"Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges"

"Section 31 demands that Bashir become involved in a secret mission to spy on a Tal'Shiar leader and determine whether a dormant illness could be used as a pretext for his murder."

I love these political intrigue episodes. They remind me of good X-Files. Unfortunately it feels like their is not going to be enough time to get any solid answers about Section 31.

"Penumbra"

"Sisko makes plans to settle down with Kasidy Yates, but a warning from the Prophets intervenes; hearing that Worf is missing in action, Ezri goes in search of Jadzia's husband."

Well here we go! Its gonna be non-stop until the end. I'll be able to fly thru these episodes I love story arcs like this.

"Till Death Do Us Part"

"Ezri and Worf discover that they were imprisoned by the Breen because the mysterious race have become allies of the Dominion; Dukat, disguised as a Bajoran, woos Kai Winn; and Sisko marries Kasidy Yates despite warnings from the Prophets."

What the hell is Dukat up to? His place as Trek's greatest villain is solidified after this episode. He is slimy. I didn't know that the Breen was a big enough power to change the war. Apparently they are because the episode ended with that big "shocker."

"Strange Bedfellows"

"As Winn realizes she has been led astray by her new lover and her own ambition, Worf and Ezri are scheduled to be executed."

I hate Winn and I hate her even more now.

"The Changing Face of Evil"

"In the midst of a Starfleet defeat, Damar changes sides...and the odds. Meanwhile, Winn learns the identity of her lover, yet prepares to follow the dark path he has shown her."

Lets go Damar!!!! What a strong finish. I must say that the scores for these episodes are getting a lot better, so much more than the wallpaper scores that have been used.

Well you've finally sped ahead of me. I'm stretching this out by doing two episodes a week, so I'm not going to finish the show till mid-July. Just started the ten episode arc. How did you like the first episode of it (Penumbra)? You didn't give any opinion of it.

I really enjoyed the Worf and Ezri interaction, but the wormhole Aliens showing up at the end annoyed me. First because I just find them corny and irritating in the first place, and second because it's always hokey when they interfere with Sisko's life by bringing him out into the middle of nowhere just to spurt out some more cryptic dialogue at him. We're never really getting a clear understanding of who they are and what they want, so they always bug the hell out of me. Especially when they basically show up just to say, "don't expect to ever have a happy life because WE OWN YOU". Bite me, Wormhole aliens. :angryrazz:

I'm trying not to reveal too many spoilers, but I need to say something about the Prophets that you may not like to hear.

...bookend DS9 just as Q bookend ST:TNG.

"Penumbra" was a good start to the arc. At first watch you really can't tell where everything is going to go but its still a good start. I like the Worf/Ezri pairing. Considering how much I didn't like Jadzia this should come as a bit of a shocker. These episodes now are just to good to take slowly. I'll be done soon.

^ yeah, you do kinda have to watch them in one setting really. I know the official title for this arc is the final chapter but for me the whole of the last few episodes is about Damar's triumph.
One of my favorite examples is in Strange bedfellows just after Worf's...conversation with Weyoun, Damar's sinister laugh and his reaction to the event was a watershed moment for the character and leads to one of his greatest lines...

"You should have killed me. There's only one Damar."

The man was still a true born Cardassian at heart;).

Damar's attempt to warn the Breen about the costs of an alliance with the Dominion is a scene of such wonderful beauty and a stellar piece of acting from Casey Briggs. It confirmed for me that Damar was one of Trek's great heros.

"When It Rains"

"Gowron takes command of the Klingon forces, Dukat is blinded and turned out by Winn when he tries to usurp her knowledge, Kira trains Cardassian rebels in resistance tactics, Odo becomes ill with the Founders' disease...and Bashir discovers that Starfleet created the virus which is killing all the changelings."

Good to see Gowron again. I am shocked that Starfleet is responsible for the virus.

"Tacking Into The Wind"

"Kira, Damar, Garak and Odo steal a Jem'Hadar ship equipped with Breen weaponry, Bashir and O'Brien decide to lure Section 31 to the station to cure the Founders' disease, and Worf kills Gowron so that Martok can lead the Klingon Empire into a new era."

Another great episode. The action was top notch. Worf killingn Gowron was awesome. Ezri's comments about the Empire were so true I had never thought of it like that before.

"Extreme Measures"

"To try to cure Odo's disease before the shapeshifter dies, Bashir and O'Brien enter the mind of Section 31's ruthless Sloan."

Bashir and O'Brien are my favorite Trek couple. They have the best relationship that Trek has ever done. O'Brien's comments about how he loves his wife but likes Bashir more were so true. If you ever have had a best friend like that you could relate to him.

This sequence is priceless comedy. Everything about it is funny, from Worf's decision to break Weyoun's neck, to Damar's reaction, to the fact that they will just make another Weyoun. Cracks me up every time I see it

I'm glad the writers followed up on them, though. It would have been easy to let them drop, I'm sure, or recede into the background, as I doubt they were a major attraction of the show to basically anyone, and certainly they were a major turn-off to some.

Still, the show as a whole would be a lot less complete, from Emissary to WYLB, if the writers hadn't stubbornly stuck with this plotline. It helps the show thematically, I think, since it adds that religious element, and that confrontation with a higher power that the show would mostly be lacking otherwise.

The prophets/wormhole aliens are hoky and ridiculous at times, but having them play a prominent part in the show is gutsy as well in a way, and it produces some good episodes.

"The Dogs of War"

"Damar, Garak, and Kira infiltrate Cardassia to heat up rebellion against the Dominion; Dax and Bashir fall in love; to Quark's consternation, Rom becomes the new Grand Nagus; Odo rails against the Federation's refusal to cure the Founders; and Yates tells Sisko that she's pregnant."

Probably the worst episode out of the last 10. The Ferengi story was not needed at all. Damar has really turned into a heroic character. I feel like the story can't be wrapped up in the finale. I am going to have to start reading the re-launch.

"What You Leave Behind"

"The end for Sisko and Yates, Kira and Odo, Bashir and Dax, Dukat and Winn, the O'Briens, Worf, Quark, Nog, Vic, Damar, Garak, the Prophets, the Pah-Wraiths, and the rest of the Deep Space Nine team."

I want more!! What a perfect finale, I was almost brought to tears. So much was lost. I was shocked that Damar died. Hopefully I'll have some more thoughts later, I'm kinda overwhelmed right now.

Congrats on making it to the end. I've enjoyed reading this thread and vicariously experiencing the first time of DS9 again. :bolian:

Congrats on finishing!!

This thread actually inspired me to go through and revisit TNG. I've been reviewing it at another board.

Now, go back and rewatch Emissary! Well, maybe not right away. But whenever you watch through the series a second time, I think you will enjoy the earlier episodes much more.

So much was laid down in those early episodes... and the characters change so much over the years. I actually enjoyed the show so much more the second time around.

Oh, and the final shot of the episode is very similar to the shot of Jake and Kira in 'Visitor'.

Also it is a mirror to the first episode. The first time we see the station it is through Jake's eyes.

Now that you've gone through the whole series, I hope you'll share your thoughts on the series as a whole and what you think it did well or did poorly.

That last shot just kills me.

Seeing the station become just one dot out of the many. I suppose one could look at it and see how many new stories are still out there...but, to me, it made the station seem insignificant in spite of all that had happened. I was gutted.
