miniglik, thanks!!

do you by any chance have the Trek quiz interview link? I'm trying to find it...

No contest. Quinto's Spock.

I watched TOS first run and for me it's always been Nimoy's Spock by a landslide over Shatner's Kirk. Quinto's Spock and Pine's Kirk were both really good, but Spock will always be one of my all time favorites.

Porbably says something about me that my favorite Trek charactors are Spock, Data, and Worf.

The mancrush interview is great. My favorite is still the very eager oldschool TOS fan who does the Access Hollywood interview.

"I'm sweating!" "I'm sweating too!!!"

"Yes, I am that guy!"

:guffaw:

Hee! "You can't remember a time before you didn't like...?" "It's a double negative." Are we allowed to link to those here? Because they really are fun.

"Boom! Boom! Booooooooom!" :guffaw:
Oh god, I just adore this video, it's the greatest!
Saw it for the first time about two weeks ago and have watched it every day at least once since then.
It's hysterical.

Well, I voted for Quinto's Spock, of course.
I have always been a Spock girl. Always and forever. Even when I saw TOS for the first time at the age of about 5 I loved Spock more than Kirk or anybody else in the series. He's awesome. I don't think he's really cold, just very smark and intelectual. "Logical." And I agree to what someone has already said, I think there's a LOT going on underneath the exterior. Definitely. He's just very good at not showing it, y'know.
Nimoy's Spock will always be my favourite. The deep voice, the trademark eyebrow raise. The original "Eyebrow of Judgement". Never duplicated. It's just not possible.

However, I think Quinto did an amazing job with his Spock, and I think he's better in portraying his character than anybody else in the new movie is. Quinto's Spock comes the closest to the original than any of the other characters in nuTrek.
I like Chris Pine, too, his Kirk was nice. Well done. And Karl urban is very cool, of course, I like him a lot. Ever since I saw him as Eomer in LotR. ;)
He played McCoy very well, in my opinion. DeKelly would've been proud!

Look-wise, I've had an enomour crush on Zachary Quinto for the past 3 weeks. I saw him in nuTrek and was just like 'Oh my god, so cute' :) and it's lasted. I'm quite obsessed with him. I love the dark brown hair (dark-haired men rule, anyway! Johnny Depp, :) Keith Richards....I love them) and the dark brown eyes and his well-trimmed stubbles. (not very fond of the new mustache he has, it reminds a bit of Raul Gomez in The Addams Family :guffaw:, but oh well, that doesn't affect my love and admiration for him in any way) I've never really watched Heroes, but not I'm definitely going to check it out! I love Zach. He looks so good and seems to be a lovely person, too. And he's got a great sense of humour and yeah, as I said, he did a great job playing Spock! Zach's "Eyebrow of Judgement" isn't as epic as Nimoy's is, of course, but it's still very good and I'm sure he'll get even better at it.

As for Pine, he reminds me of Brad Pitt. I used to be a Brad Pitt fan a few years ago. I'm not anymore. Chris is quite a hottie, though. Not as much as Quinto is, however. I like Pine's Kirk. Hope he grows up, though. Howvere, I wouldn't say his is better than Shatner's. After all, Shatner's is the original. Pine's is good, anyway.

Btw, my mom's always been a Spock fan and agrees to what I said about the new Spock coming the closest to the original. So, she'd vote for Quinto's Spock, too. ;)

A vote for Quinto's Spock definitely. But I prefer Nimoy's much more, and he has a much nicer voice. Plus I've also loved him for twenty years- so that gives him a bit more of an edge. :)

McCoy has always been my second choice. And Urban playing McCoy- wow. I wasn't expecting a sexy McCoy either.

Kirk has never been an attractive character to me. However, I do like Shatner's Kirk more- he has more charm and looks. I could never quite buy Pine as Kirk as easily as I could Quinto and Urban.

I wonder if Quinto's Spock is not as popular as Nimoy's Spock because Pine's Kirk is handsomer than Shatner and because Spock is more emotional in this movie and he's already got the girl?

In TOS, Spock was this controlled intellectual who had these seething emotions running under the surface. To me, that was sexy as hell, both because he was smarter than anyone else and because you wanted to hug him to get those emotions out more. In XI, Spock's more emotional because of what happens to his planet and because he's younger. Uhura gets to hug him instead.

Do I need to say whom I've voted for? ;)

I forgot to say that what was unexpected for us long-time female Trek fans was a sexy McCoy! That was a nice surprise. And the woman friend I went to the movie with would definitely agree.
So true! I would have never thought that one day I'd look at McCoy in that way.

NuKirk, NuSpock, and NuMcCoy are all hot, but I've always favored Spock over the others. Quinto as Spock is so stunning to look at, I tend to forget the other two are in the movie.
After my first viewing of the movie, I barely remembered what Kirk looked like and I only remembered McCoy because I already knew Urban. I think I spent the whole movie ogling Spock

that's interesting. did you ladies also feel the same way about Nimoy/Spock?
Always and still, since I'm 7 years old :) I'm re-watching TOS and I still find Nimoy/Spock sexy and attractive.

And what y'all describe as "cold" in Spock, I would describe as "formidably intelligent" - but the thing about Spock that gets to us "Spock girls" is that while he is of course very much in control, he gives the impression that there's a lot going on underneath that controlled exterior. A lot. And all of it...very interesting.
And I think that it's what attracts me to Spock. The human passion that you can feel is just beneath the cool Vulcan facade.

I liked that Quinto didn't use the eyebrow raise too much (if only because each one almost made me hyperventilate ).
There was one just after Pike tells him to not damage the Enterprise, one when he sits in the jellyfish and says "Fascinating". Others?

There was one detail I absolutely enjoyed in the movie. When Quinto/Spock is in the turbolift going up to the bridge for the Enterprise inaugural flight, just before the doors open, he tilts his head in a way that is so totally Spock, I was on the squee verge. Yep, I'm a goner.

Spock being my absolute favorite ST character (I also like Data and Odo, which is somehow telling), I feared I wasn't going to like his portrayal in STXI (after all, I had known him for 27 years played by Nimoy) and that would have ruined the movie for me. But when adult/Spock stepped out of the shadows to speak to his mother, I was like "OMG" :techman:

This is what I think women find attractive in Spock. I'm just a guy, but I know a lot of women who for some reason love the emotionally unavailable man. The problem is, this seemingly endearing quality often ends up driving you crazy later!

nuSpock is so hot I had to be peeled off the vinyl chair in the theatre! I always preferrred Spock the character to Shatner's Kirk - heck - most anyone's Kirk but nu Spock is so delicious and juicy. Lord Almighty. I don't have the words. Daayyymmmnnnnn!!!!!!

In fact, this is true of both characters. TOS Kirk is also unavailable, because he's in love with the Enterprise.

But later on in the movies, Shatner made the Kirk character warmer and more approachable. And I think that is where I started going over to the light side, so to speak.

Good point about Kirk also being emotionally unavailable. But Spock is the greater intrigue and challenge -- women may ask themselves, how can that Vulcan facade be cracked, and can I be the one to do it?

I was never infatuated with Spock for his unapproachability. I liked him for his intrinsic quality -- what he represented as a character: the knowledgeable one. I couldn't even list all the times he succeeded by virtue of something he knew. What girl wouldn't want that power on her side.

Later on I realized that Kirk's dynamism was the ultimate power. Spock knew it himself. So, why not just go with the ultimate, was my thought. I'd rather have that power at my beck and call.

Thinking more about it, I suspect that the dynamic of cool v. fiery isn't really that important for me. True, I want there to be some sort of spark to the character, be it on the surface or buried under a cooler, calmer exterior. But I think that fits both Kirk and Spock and is the reason (at least in this movie) they're both pretty well loved.

But the reason I like Kirk has more to do with my long running adoration for characters who, for lack of a better description, keep trying even when failure is almost guaranteed; who walk when they can't run anymore, and crawl when they can't walk anymore. Especially if the story really explores that, and nothing comes easy to them, and the character is well drawn enough I can empathize with their struggle. This can be a flambouyant hothead, a quiet genius, a tired idealist, or whatever. But give me a reasonably attractive guy with a decently drawn character who has that kind of fight in them, and I'm usually hooked. (Also with unattractive male characters or, particularly, awesome female characters, but in those cases it's not really about being "sexy".)

That, and, of course, I superficially really like Pine's lips.

I feel the same way. and yes, I saw that head-tilt too... :techman:

I always look for that in the turbo scene; what I think was that Quinto needed to do something while he was waiting.
