There was one detail I absolutely enjoyed in the movie. When Quinto/Spock is in the turbolift going up to the bridge for the Enterprise inaugural flight, just before the doors open, he tilts his head in a way that is so totally Spock, I was on the squee verge. Yep, I'm a goner.

Spock being my absolute favorite ST character (I also like Data and Odo, which is somehow telling), I feared I wasn't going to like his portrayal in STXI (after all, I had known him for 27 years played by Nimoy) and that would have ruined the movie for me. But when adult/Spock stepped out of the shadows to speak to his mother, I was like "OMG" :techman:

I feel the same way. and yes, I saw that head-tilt too... :techman:

So that's what they were going for there. Every time I see that scene it throws me off, because he looks like he's noticed something "fascinating" and the camera is about to show us whatever it is, but really it's just his "going up the lift" face. I didn't realize it was a Nimoy callback.

I was worried sick going in that Quinto wouldn't pull it off - loved Nimoys Spock so long - the little touches like the turbo lift and his interaction with his mother - oh all right - with everyone - that were different from SpockPrimes' yet so similar gave me shivers. Growing up with Spock Prime I had gotten used to feeling it was mostly intelect but QuintoSpock brought back the purely sexy part of it back for me.

I want to know where the Facts About nuSpock thread is - just about everyone else in the movie got one - for Pete's sake Muffin got one! I tried a similar one May 9th and got maybe two responses! Spock Grokkers - unite and pipe up!!!

miniglik, I don't even think it was scripted. I think this was one of those times that JJ said Quinto did something that he didn't even know until he was editing the damned thing in post production.

*salutes* Yes Jeri! To perform my new duties to the best of my ability, I shall report to Sick Bay for an exam. :shifty:

I know, I saw those and thought they were cute. But they are $100 or more... Trek Meercats, oldstredshrtevr? No I missed that one... do you have a link? :)

Yep $100... which I guess I understand since they are better than average bears. I've had a Vermont Teddy Bear before, many years ago. They are very well made.

And of course, they are limited, but $100 is a bit steep. They should have an Uhura and a McCoy bear too though.

Pine's Kirk, which is a bit ironic, given that when it comes to TOS I'm a die-hard Spock girl. Quinto was great as Spock, and was definitely sexy, but Kirk was the one who revved my engine in the film.

I'm so pleased that XI was full of tasty, handsome, wonderful young actors. It was a smorgasbord of delicious hunks! And they can all act! (Kirk and Spock sandwich anyone???) I've adored Urban for years, and Bruce Greenwood is one of my favorite actors ever (mainly for his roles in Atom Egoyan's films - Bruce will break your heart in Exotica).

But, as fabulous as Pine was (and I actually think his performance as Kirk is a bit underrated), it was Quinto's hot eyed Spock that got me all...erm...excited. In his very first scene, when NuSpock walked up to his mother, endured her smoothing his clothes, then took her hands in his and stared deep into her eyes - I melted. And when those dark eyes flashed as he gaves the figurative finger to the Vulcan Science Academy - in tight close up no less, THANK you JJ Abrams - well, I was gone. The Spock/Uhura scene in the turbolift - OMG.

I also loved the Spock body language Quinto used - the posture, the eyebrow, the little head to one side thing in lift, the way he sat down in the command seat in the Jellyfish with the head tilt and the "fascinating". All completely natural and integrated into the character. In the scene on the bridge where Spock drills Kirk and Scotty, watch the way Quinto uses small shifts in voice inflection, his line of sight, and very subtle facial movement to show how tightly wound and tamped down his Spock is,,he doesn't actually "do" much, but he reveals layers of depth. And that's where I think Quinto really succeeeds, whatever the temperature of the scene, because without being terribly overt, he always conveys that's there's lots of thinkgs going on behind the eyes. That's the key to playing Spock IMO, expressing the inner life of the character.

I've never seen Heros, and was only familliar with Quinto from some episodic TV appearances. I saw pics of NuSpock while the movie was still in production and was struck by Quinto's physical aptness for the character. In a perfect world, Quinto would have a deeper voice. But I think he was an absolutely marvelous and sexy Spock - he was born to play Spock. (And I don't care which way Quinto swings IRL. Spock in Trek is straight.)

I was always a Spock girl during TOS, which I started waching at age 13 in 1966. I enjoyed Shatner's Kirk a lot, and I actually think the Shat did a lot with that character. (To see how such a role doesn't necessarily work with a better actor, see The Cage.) I early gravitated to everything Vulcan, and in fact my favorite Vulcan male of all time is Mark Lenard's Sarek

*Ahem*
I really wanted to write a serious post about my reasons for prefering Spock.
No, really, I wanted to write about how fantastic a job Z. Quinto has done and how his posture and facial axpression is so... *Spock* and all that.... :techman:

Okay, I give up. Honestly?

Spock is HOT  *ducks*

Spock is Hot! No need to duck, but you're going to get dehydrated soon with all that drooling, Opal1! :)
