Yep. I did think he did a good job with the character. (Although I kind of missed the subtle archness I remember from younger Nimoy. Maybe it was because Nimoy got to react off the much more idiosyncratic Shatner, so he got a lot of opportunities to make an, "I don't know what you're smoking, you crazy human" face.)

I'm currently part of a particularly cracked out livejournal community (it's wicked fun) that's obsessed with new Trek. It's safe to say their Quinto-as-Spock love is just off the charts right now. And, although I have no problem with their opinion, I just don't get it. Sure, he's an attractive man, and I like a giant nerd more than most women, but Pine was on my screen playing Kirk-by-way-of-Marlon-Brando with a good deal of charisma and pretty magnificent hot lips...

Quinto's Spock, but it's close, I have to say... I like Pine as Kirk better than I liked Shatner. But then, I was always a Spock girl.

Same here.

NuKirk, NuSpock, and NuMcCoy are all hot, but I've always favored Spock over the others. Quinto as Spock is so stunning to look at, I tend to forget the other two are in the movie.

It's an offshoot of the gossip community ohnotheydidnt, but it's far better than that community (no ripping on the celebrities, for one). And it's very much geared for women/gay men who enjoy the menfolk, but it's not just obsessed with nuTrek. (There are numerous posts every day talking about TOS or TNG or whatever.) I think it got something like 2000 members the first two weeks after the movie came out, although the new member growth has since slowed.

If you want to laugh you really need to read all the GQMF macros. (Will Wheaton and LeVar Burton even commented on theirs on twitter, which amuses me.)

EDIT: Beware, they do post about things like Quintos rumored sexual preferences and the size of Pine's, er, jeans.

Undoubtedly. I never cared for Shatner's Kirk (or Shatner's Shatner for that matter).

I eventually did feel that way about Spock. I started off fascinated by him, and I still admire him a lot. But in the end, I felt Kirk was warmer.

I did feel exactly the same way about Nimoy/Spock (well, not exactly - I was a lot younger and more impulsive way back then), but in my case it pulled me the exact opposite way.

What y'all are describing as "warm" in Kirk (both Kirks, actually) I find...too skirt-chasy. Too tomcatty. Too anything-female-and-reasonably-attractivey. He needs to grow the heck up, really (and I felt that way about Shatner's Kirk, too, although his character was well past the age when he should need to grow up). If and when he does, I might very well change my mind.

And what y'all describe as "cold" in Spock, I would describe as "formidably intelligent" - but the thing about Spock that gets to us "Spock girls" is that while he is of course very much in control, he gives the impression that there's a lot going on underneath that controlled exterior. A lot. And all of it...very interesting.

I totally noticed that too! I spent about two days trying to decide who he reminded me of, and I came up with a mix of Brando and Kilmer.

I voted for Kirk, and I find TOS Kirk more attractive than TOS Spock as well. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact Kirk smiles a whole lot more than Spock. Nothing wrong with Spock, but when I compare the two I know I prefer Kirk.

Hmm. I think I do like a little fire. Not that I mind "cold" if it serves a purpose as a defense or a mask. I do want some fire underneath, at least. Which I think this movie alluded to just a little, so I could have found this Spock sexier in that way. (To jump to another science fiction show, I liked Firefly's Simon Tam quite a bit, though he is rigid and mannered.) Like I said, there's just something about Quinto I find asexual. And I did not feel the same way about Nimoy. He was sexier than Kirk, definitely.

And, hey, I like intelligent men too.
