Did they make a fat joke in regards to Scotty?

I don't know why I didn't think about this before and I am proably reading to much into this but I think it is possible. When Scotty is complaining about the lack of food on the planet, it just occuried to me that they might have been going with this joke since we know Scotty got fat in the movies. Granted I also think having Kirk eat a apple while doing the Kobyashi Maru scenario is callback to "Wrath of Khan" when he is eating a apple while talking about how he cheated on the test.

Yeah, I think you're reading too much into it. He'd been stuck at that outpost for months with an Ewok lizard that eats like a supermodel and nothing to eat but rations. He was hungry for real food and a taste of home, both literally and metaphorically.

No fat joke for old Scotty intended that I could see.

This however is correct, and quite obviously an homage to TWoK.

^my dad (an old, original fan) did have a bit of a problem with Pegg's Scotty. still, he has more of a problem with the new Uhura.

ya can't please everyone *shrug*

Re: Scotty is not a joker

I love the show Fringe.

:p

Seriously, I don't think that was the case at all--complaints about food rations in remote work facilities are quite the norm even without Scotty.

It would of been much more in line if he bitched that he hadn't had a decent drop in months...now that would of been at least a remnant of Scotty that I could of recognized. Pegg's portrayal I'm not 100% on board with -- but I don't entirely hate it either. I understand this is supposed to be the "young" Scotty...but he just seems so amazed at everything and kind of manic and coked up...not the calm cool guy that we meet later in life..... who can handle himself in a crisis and do the "impossible".....

yes but Scotty can distill "a drop" from anything. I bet he's been doing that.

what he needs is a decent meal. I know I would, too.

Fat joke? No.

Apple as a nod to TWOK? Absolutely.

Pegg as Scotty? Thought he was great.

^^ he probably purified some alcohol-based chemical used at the outpost into something potable.

OK -- so he turned a chemical into alchohol.... as ridiculous as that sounds....I'll go along with that....but wouldn't he of still said "I haven't had a decent drop in 6 months man...(etc.)...."

I guess I'm the only one who finds that line to be much more believable than the food utterance...so be it....but I think a lot of you (not you Jackson specifically) will say anything and everything to try to make it fit and work (in general about the movie).....let's call spades spades here...

exactly. I seem to remember he doing that in TOS. can't remember the name of the episode.

Anyone remember this? Please furnish the episode title if you do...
