Did they make a fat joke in regards to Scotty?

was it Wolf in the Fold maybe? I'll check later when I have more time.

So has anyone figured out what episode Scotty distilled liquor from something.....?

Indranee don't bother looking -- LOL not that you have...but no episode with this element in it exists...I'm sure I would of remembered the
Scot-man brewing up some shit...plus I would of been taking notes.

Re: Scotty is not a joker

they are taking it seriously.

A web campaign is being organized to have Pegg sacked as Scotty, and for Abrams to pay attention to cultural sensitivity before condemning a Scottish icon to the waste bin.

calm scotland....

think scotty was a good casting job, we was always sorta a comic relif and was sorta jolly in the movies. besides Simon P egg is a good actor he can tone it down in the inevitable next one.

I'll find it no worries ;)

I'm fairly sure Scots are agreed that Pegg's accent is a vast improvement on Doohan's. All this furore over turning Scotty into a humorous character is lost on us since he was hilarious from the moment Doohan uttered his first line.

Only TOS though....I'm not including the movies...I don't want to admit this to anyone...so I'm just going to tell you...but I haven't seen them all . Not a word of this to anyone!

Probably, but I don't think the point should have been to nail the accent more than to nail the character. Both Abrams and Yelchin (who is Russian) agreed that Chekov's accent has not much to do with an actual Russian accent, but it is part of the character's trademark.

In my opinion, Kirk, Spock and McCoy were all done properly in their own way. Scotty didn't do it for me. It just felt like a different character. That may have to do with how he was written, but I still think Paul McGillion that actually wanter the role and auditionned his guts out for it would have made a better job.

I don't recall Scotty distilling any homemade beverages in TOS. The closest thing I can think of was his 'repurposing' of McCoy's diluted Klingon nerve toxin in 'The Tholian Web' as a beverage.

Pegg is not Doohan. So what? I thought he did just fine. A petition to replace him? That may just prove there IS actually more time in the universe than is necessary. Otherwise why waste it like that?

I loved the cast. I thought they nailed their characters. They were easily the best thing in the film and there were a lot of good things in that film.

It's too late to replace him now. He has the role. One fear I have, however, his that he may very well be the "diva" one that want out the soonest and may jeopardise future productions.

Diva? Pegg? Utter bollocks.

Wouldnt the script be the same, no matter who was cast? I thought Pegg nailed it too. And I have no probelm seeing Doohan deliver the lines Pegg did. As I said before Doohan was great at some of the comic stuff Scotty did in the series and the movies. He could play it broad like in the drunk scene in "By Anyother Name" or the more controled stuff like in "Tribbles". He could be excitable or calm depending on the situations. Put the ship in a tough spot and Doohan's Scotty would complain one minute then get excited about a solution to the problem, Pegg's Scotty seems the same.

I dread the thought of any of them having to be recast now. Please don't ask for more money or else, I think.

But that's just it. Pegg's always gigly excited and looking for comical relief. Scotty is more balanced than that. Even with more development, I just can't see how it could get better. Pegg just isn't an actor, he's a comedian.

Having seen Pegg in several movies I would say yes he is an actor, not just a comic. In this one story Scotty was used to humorous effect. Just as in several episodes Scotty was used to humorous effect. In the next one we might see Scotty's more serious side.
