Major League Baseball 2009

As a night person, I didn't mind the start times for the World Series, but starting a little earlier does make sense (except to those on the west coast).

For the third straight game, the Yankees beat up on the Twins' bullpen. Since it was Jesse Crain pitching this time I wasn't surprised, but it's getting a little frustrating having your team play well for nine innings only to lose it in the end. The Twins really need to shake thing up in their bullpen.

I'm not understanding the complaint West Coast people have about this and I'm from the West coast. There is nothing wrong with DVRing the game and then watching it when you get home. Either that or listen to the game on Radio (Which might be better because while Buck is decent, and I know I'm in a minority with that statement, McCarver is god awful) and then watch when you get home.

I like the idea of the earlier start time. The games even on the west were running late as well (Now that the average length for a game is 4 hours or so) here and it's great to come home, and have dinner with the game going on in the background. I still wish they found a way to have weekend world series games on during the day but that's never going to happen.

^ By the time I get to eat dinner its 9 PM half the time anyway, so I'll watch the 5th instead of 3rd inning.

The thing is, if you're on the West Coast, just listen to the game on the radio on the way home. Even if you prefer baseball on TV (I love a good radio call), it still beats the East Coast method of not getting into it at all since you know you have to go to bed by the 6th inning and finding out about it on ESPN.com the next morning.

If it's a matter of staying up 1 more inning, then fine why not. But I'm not staying up another 3 innings.

I'm more of a Giants fan (And believe me we have our issues too) than an A's fan, but I do follow the A's to an extent. For some reason though, ever since last year's All Star break, it really has been hard to. I think Thresher said it best in that the A's really haven't been fun since the 20 game winning streak. That's not to say they've been awful since but it seems like things have been slowly falling and since the all star break to now, it's gone from bad to downright ugly. I was listening to the game and during the play when the Ray was struck out but still made it to first and 2 runs were scored, even the announcers were saying this is rock bottom. How could this team be so bad. And what can this team do to improve?

I think one of the things they could address is Garen is not the answer and should be fired. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

^ I think the problem with the A's this year is that they resemble the 1999 all-star team. Frank Thomas, Nomar, etc. Over the hill types.

Nice to see the Sox in winning form against the AL-East-leading Jays. Wakefield definitely brought his A-game. Hopefully this will be the start of another win streak--especially with Youk due back tomorrow. :)

^ I do always hate playing against Wakefield...

I think Penny and Lester will be much easier to get to, so I think the Jays bats have a good chance of coming alive in the next two games.

We'll see about that. Youk will be working on getting his average back above .400 ;)

Seriously, though, the Sox starters--apart from Wake--have not been impressive. It's the near-unhittable bullpen that's been propping up the pitching lately--and the 'pen will be well-rested for tomorrow.

I think the key will be the first three or four innings. If the Jays can grab a foothold then, they can probably win the game.

Ya, the starters need to start pulling their weight, even though with Wake's masterpiece tonight that is three very, very good starts in a row. Hopefully it continues.

And yes the bullpen has been EXCELLENT. I pray now at the altar of Ramon Ramirez.

Watching these past couple of games (including tonight's current disaster), I think our mighty O is about to fade. Our pitching is going to have to stay top notch if we're going to remain contenders... either that or Rios and Wells are going to have to start delivering. Wells has more AB with runners on scoring position then any other player in the majors, and he has not been delivering.

Stupid Blue Jays... how do you only score 3 runs on 14 hits?!? Gosh darn it. Anyone else get really, really, really angry when their team loses?

David Ortiz, Jason Bay, Mike Lowell, and Jason Varitek X 2 hit those balls so far, the Blue Jays now have enough frequent flier miles to get back to Canada.

And Brad Penny looked decent. Excellent night.

And Youk back over .400! Some of those balls were so crushed, I wonder if they landed in Toronto. ;) Nah, they probably just landed on some poor guy's car in that stupidly-placed parking lot on Lansdowne St.

The Giants are the same way. Have a pitcher who is really showing a resurgence (Barry Zito) go complete game 5 hitter and still loses because there is so little run support from the offense, or lack thereof. It's happening again tonight actually and it's against the Padres of all teams. Why the heck can't the Giants beat the freaking Padres. :scream:

I don't understand what's up with Wells. The guy's been in a number of situations where he should be able to produce, but instead comes up with a pop-fly to shallow left. It's frustrating as hell. :scream:

I get pissed off at the Braves when they make stupid errors and strike out, which usually causes them to lose. It's like they're not even paying attention half the time.

Sweep! Nice to see the Sox starters finally doing their jobs. Dice-K vs. Santana should be interesting.
