Terminator Terminated

Apparently this was expected for another reason too: MGM is trying to reacquire the rights to the Terminator Franchise from Warner Brothers and it looks like they're going to be given them.

I am curious about this, any more details? The ownership of the franchise is so fractured already. The rights to each of the first 3 films is controlled by a direct studio. In terms of DVDs but also licensing for merchandise.

Does WB actually own the rights or do they have a distribution deal with the actual rights holders?

Warners just has a distribution deal. In fact they're just the domestic distributor. International distribution is being handled by a number of different companies, with Sony handling the most territories. The principal rights holder is the Halcyon Co.

It's too bad. I didn't watch TSCC after its mid-season returned but I liked the show a lot. It's a shame they at least couldn't end on their own terms. They should have shot two endings just in case.

Not even a novel follow-up seems like overkill.

Exactly, MGM has, because they won a lawsuit against Halcyon and because of their connection to the now defunct Orion Pictures. If Salvation is a success they have every intention of taking the film away from WB from what's been said.

NX, give me the name of the person(s) who made the decision, I wana fire off some angry e-mails

I'm afraid that I don't even have that information. What's interesting to me is that the Fox Lineup for the Fall doesn't have anything listed in TSCC timeslot as of yet and I just find it interesting...

Josh Friedman told in irc yesterday he had been asked to write two press releases, one for renewed and one for terminated but had not written one before he knew what was going on.

I do not believe it is cancelled unless Friedman says so. Or Summer.

It would sound strange that they could not make money out of this series. If they make money out of some 200 million dollar film - how could they not make money out of series costing far less for the whole 2 seasons so far? There is nothing comparable on TV. Has not been in years. So why would people not watch it? Maybe the series needed movie-like advertising, get the movie-people to advertise it. Or show clips of lovable Summer talking to her fans at cons and triple the viewership.

yet the dollhouse looks like it might be renewed? Did we really need more proof that shit floats?
Yeah, HEROES is going to get another season. Seriously though Dollhouse didn't water down the nearly undefeatable boogeyman every night so while the genre fan in me will miss the craptacular TSCC Dollhouse is the better option.

This info on the movie franchise is what REALLY fires me up though. My god we are never going to get a nice boxed set on the whole saga are we? Furthermore how does this affect the plans for T5 & T6 I wonder. Cause T5 had reports of prelim work being moved ahead. :scream:

MGM would take over the distribution rights from WB.

Chances of a box set have been, and always will be, impossible.

I think that the writing is pretty much on the wall for the series.

The series had movie like advertising in the first season and even sponsored the Super Bowl in the US. The first ratings were good, but they tanked not long after. They've never been able to regain the original viewers which is what brought about the show's death I'm afraid. The DVR numbers were, as I said, amazing, but they aren't saving it this time most likely. Fox doesn't want the show to do well because all they do is air it and it had low demos so that translates to low advertising revenue.

Plus, Fox has a big film coming up this week against Salvation (Night at the Museum 2), they may have done this to hurt the film. The only thing that has me even remotely curious is that the early proposed schedule has the Friday night at 8:00 timeslot empty.

I loved season one, season two seemed to lose its focus for me, but I would have stayed with it for a third. :(

Gave up about five episode into this season and only just deleted the rest from my hard drive. I am glad it was cancelled - it was really quite boring and tedious.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised, but I am dissapointed--especially with the news that a wrap up to season 2 in any form isn't planned.

Come on, not even a novel or a comic book series?

Too bad for the fans, but it's not unexpected ...

I stopped watching around episode 5 or 6 of this season because the show got way too boring. And now I hear that it ended with a cliffhanger, so there's no point in finishing it even if I'll have some free time to burn ...

Well that sucks! If anyone on this forum becomes a Hollywood producer and has an idea for a well written, well acted, thought provoking scifi television series, do not, I repeat DO NOT, shop it to Fox. They are the graveyard for these sorts of shows.

On the other hand if your idea is another "reality" show, make Fox your first stop...

Fuck Fox...

i am currently extremely angry, nobody talk to me right now, i need some room to go outside and try to calm down

Shame as I really liked the show. It did take a dip in quality midway through season 2, but I thought it had gotten really enjoyable again by the end of the season, and I'd have loved to see what the had planned for season 3.

Actually the show did have high viewership ratings in DVR and online viewing (counting them the show had just shy of 7 million viewers); they just didn't take them into account this time.

Yet they did take DVR into account with Dollhouse.

Personally, I class both Dollhouse and TSCC in the category of "I'd like them both renewed but wouldn't be destroyed if they were cancelled".

Shame for fans of the show though. Unlucky guys. :(
