Why is Captain Robau so popular?

Point missed, had the whole Robau thing not been so majorly overplayed, with everybody talking about it, it would not have gotten so old, people like yours truly would have gone to see the movie and been more interested in the character, not less because of the overload of Robau.

Instead of it being; "That's Robau, he seems kinda cool." it was "That's Robau, the guy that people can't stop talking about!"

Robau and Faran Tahir are just kewl. That's just a fact. Maybe not free-sex-and-beer-for-life kewl. But for TREK and a one-time character who gets killed ten minutes into a movie he's hella-awesome.:bolian:

Well, I wouldn't mind a spinoff with badass Robau. Something like Duke Nukem in space. :D

If it weren't for the Robaulooza that erupted around here, I seriously doubt anybody would have gone, hey look it's Robau. They more than likely would have just dismissed him within the first five minutes as another redshirt in the wrong color. I'll give you ten quatloos if you can name the female captain of the Saratoga in Star Trek IV off the top of your head. The mighty Robau will not be so easily forgotten, and for that, the cult of Robau says your welcome.

You know, the answer to the original question is provided here.

In case you don't feel like clicking on the link, I'll quote my post in the thread to explain things:

    I disagree.

I never came into this forum until after I saw the movie as I didn't want the movie spoiled for me in any way.

Despite not have any idea before hand about Robau, I instantly loved the character and thereby joined the cult.

Next thing you know, we'll be getting tons of spinoff novels where we learn that Cubans are the coolest people in the galaxy and even the most badass Klingon warrior is no match for a Cuban. We learn how influential they are and that the Federation clone army uses Robau's DNA for its soldiers. And Robau himself finds some ridiculous and absurd way to cheat death.

This sounds familiar for some reason...

Of course, I should have known. Richard Robau is so mighty, he needs no introduction. Now if you'll excuse me, I must go engage in some badass repentance. I'm not sure exactly what that will involve, but the very sound of it already has me vowing never to underestimate the power of his awesomeness again. Anyway, welcome to the cult and all hail Robau, the last line of defense for his unaltered universe.

How can you have more than 100%?

I thought Capt. Robau was a hottie, and he seemed pretty cool in the five minutes we got to see him. Plus, the name is cool -- Robau! I'm hoping he makes a return as Admiral Robau.

    This is STAR TREK, baby.

He's not really dead...so long as we remember to Turtle Wax his scalp.

Someone THAT badass doesn't die. He becomes One with the Force. And then visits future Starfleet captains in spirit form in the following decades in order to make sure THEY are being as badass as they can possibly manage.:techman:

If you get a chance, pick up the movie souvenir edition of the Star Trek magazine. It has a segment near the back with an interview with Faran Tahir.

He is just so friggin' cool! The guy was a Trekkie back in the day!

He admitted as much in his TV GUIDE Channel interview. He was a huge Trekkie and felt like a 10-year-old kid on a STAR TREK set.
