Re: Not to be nitpicky
It has already been discussed here, but I noticed that too.

Yeah, the whole "The Enterprise is the only ship defending Earth!" has been done so very, very, very much in the various movies/series. Like you, I can give them the benefit of "dramatic license" in that, how dull would it be for the Enterprise to be one of 500 ships blowing the hell out of the Narada before it can so much as cross the orbit of Pluto? It'd be a cool sequence, but would make for a short movie...![]()
In other words, we don't mind paying for lazy writing, because making a plausible movie would be just too much work.
A real writer, a good writer, could make a movie in which the Enterprise was "one of 500 ships" that was compelling and good.
DEWLine said:You're not alone in wondering about that. I can believe 10,000 survivors in an evacuation of Vulcan itself, but not the entire species being winnowed down to that number. They have to have had colonies and outposts elsewhere.
The date of first contact between the Cardassians and Starfleet is unknown, but is likely to have occurred mid-to-late 22nd Century, as a Cardassian exile, Iloja of Prim, lived on Vulcan during that time period. Sometime before 2347 the Cardassians attempted to expand into Federation territory and war broke out, lasting around twenty years. Captain Edward Jellico spearheaded successful attempts by Starfleet to negotiate a peace treaty which ended the war.
7. How is Spock not in trouble for marooning a fellow Star Fleet member on an obviously dangerous planet so far from the base? And did that lobster creature really look like something that would exist in an arctic enviroment?
Yeah, I did... Wasn't first contact with the Cardassians supposed to be in the 2290's-2300's? NOT the 2250's as the film is supposed to be in?
Also, what was the race of the guy between Kirk and Uhura when Kirk orders his drink? Was that supposed to be a Klingon??
You mean within 30 light years?
They had 25 years to figure it out.
The Narada had 25 years to enhance their weapons and shields from their initial encounter with the Kelvin, to the battle with the Federation fleet at Vulcan. As it was only a mining ship, I doubt it would have been that weel armed, so they had time to deal with that issue.
I think we can presume that the Narada destroyed whatever defense forces Vulcan had, which triggered the distress call in the first place.

Maybe I missed it, but why didn't Nero, after having gone back in time, just go and rescue his wife? Would save him having to be pissed off at the Galaxy.
- Enterprise in Iowa. The scene looks great and all, but it's a bit redundant.
Never mind the Enterprise - Iowa also apparently has at least one huge-@$$ canyon in the 23rd century.
They didn't have respect for the size of the universe. They made it look small.
I agree with Ebert's criticisms. They were transporting from Saturn to Earth? Or from Delta Vega onto the ship?
And how is it that Spock could see Vulcan from Delta Vega? I also agree that it was convenient how Spock and Scotty both ended up there.
Also, what they were doing for 25 years was hard to fathom. Likewise with the rapid promotions.
And what was the point of firing at the Narada once it was in the grip of the black hole? Why not just turn around and Warp Away right then? How did ejecting the warp core help them escape?

Don't presume everybody has access to the comic. It might be out of stock.Do yourself a favor, read the 4 issue comics mini-series, Star Trek: Countdown.![]()
