Gotta love Niles' dog, the very, very nervous Italian greyhound. And I'm glad that they left Maris up to our imaginations - although we did actually "see" her a few times: Wrapped in bandages from head to toe, inside a crate, as a shadow on the wall . . .
Well, the invisible "Vera" device worked so well on Cheers, I'm glad they took it even a step further with Maris.

Supposedly, the original plan was that Maris WOULD appear on Frasier at some point because they WERE specifically avoiding a repeat of Vera. They just didn't get around to showing Maris for a long time, and after a while, they started to realize that she was much funnier unseen and merely described than if they actually showed her. (Although, I imagine they still might have shown her on screen if they had found the right actress for her. But really, who could possibly play Maris even better than we imagine her?)
That was great!I think Maris can only exsist in our imaginations, though I think Frasier made her "appear" the best by putting a ramekin on top of Niles' dog and saying that the dog looked like Maris wearing a pillbox hat.![]()
That's odd. Just watched that on DVD today with the sis.I agree. A little funny here and there throughout but it was a very heavy set of episodes. Isn't this the only time they did it though? I know there were small parts of episodes in the later run of the show where there would be a serious bit, but these episodes stick out like a sore thumb.
All the things leading up to Niles discovering he had a heart problem were amusing. He had a toothace and he was aware that there wasa very small chance of it being a sign of heart disease. So then he wins twice in a one in 10,000 competition, there's another Niles and Daphne in the coffee house, and his car gets struck by lightning.
Good man.Ok, I've come to a conclusion.
Roz.
I think I lust after her more than Daphnie.
She got more nicely rounded... "fleshy bits."

And let us not forget a pioneer in the unseen character genre: Carlton (Your Doorman) in Rhoda.
