:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw: :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Nothing like pulling the rug out from under such a serious conversation...

Wouldn't it be nice if just once in awhile some of US would come down off their High-Horses'.
(Of course, those same, some of US, appear to really love and live for, the saddle chafing. :rommie:)

No expert here, but I can see a lot of similarities between the two also.
Though I doubt there was any intentional 'ripping-off' going on.

(I also don't believe that there was any Intentional Accusations of Such, being made HERE either.)

I especially love this last pic, as an In-between shot...)

Compared to what actually looks like, I'm starting to think that this actually isn't that bad! The saucer's a mess but other than that, it looks right.

Whhhat? Its not anything near as nice as the new ship, which is not really that dissimilar to the original movie ship.

RAMA

I really feel as though I'm missing something in my Trekkie brain that should make me want to care about this. People talk about the proportions not being right, but I truly can't see it. I see that they proportions vary from design to designs, but I'm not seeing how one way for a make believe spaceship is more "correct" than the other.

I think you're right, but people tend to privilege what's familiar to them.

There are a very few things I don't like about Church's overall design, and when I describe them I tend to point to earlier versions of the Enterprise as being more like what I'd prefer. I see other people doing the same thing, but the things they object to are different and not things that bother me at all - and consequently I don't necessarily see the obvious superiority of the versions they prefer.

I can't stand either of them but at least Vektor's Monsterprise gets the joke that it is supposed to be.

BTW, this ship does the Gundamprise one better: it was built underground, probably at the bottom of of mine shaft. The gravity of a planetary body and the increased air pressure are necessary to balance to transverse rectifubulating isodidecametric inducer coils.
There was a GUNDAMPRISE!? WHERE!???

I hate to say this but your (and my) Fuckin' Star Trek has been dead for quite some time now...

Time to buck-up and try to at least, enjoy what is yet to come. (or Ignore it)

I'm going to see this movie with a somewhat closed mind, just because after 40 some-odd years, that's the way things are.

But, I'm hoping that when I come out of the theater, I'll at least feel comfortable with this NuTrek if not altogether happy with it.

I completely disagree. I like the new ship - if it were to be named anything other than Enterprise no one would have a problem with it.

Well, they finally did it; they killed my fucking Star Trek!
See and this is why you fail.

Star Trek isn't yours.

???

Yes it is...just like it's Mine and Yours and Anybody else's who likes/loves it....

WE all have a version of Trek in OUR heads that WE consider OURS.

It's just not the Version that JJ & Company have in Their heads.

And there is Absolutely Nothing Wrong with that.

WE ALL just have to remember to look for the parts of TREK in this movie that WE like/love, to enjoy it.

For some of US there may not be enough of that kind of Trek in the movie to enjoy it, and that's OK too.

:)

No no you see it's that kind of thinking that WE own trek in some way that it is OURS that get people in trouble. It's a form of entertainment we buy a license to watch. We rent it, but we don't own it, until such time as we are officially writing it.

This is the same thinking that got Battlestar Galactica Star Richard Hatch in trouble for the novels he was writing and had published, he thought he owned BSG, that it was his. Even Shatner had to get permission from the PTB to write Trek novels.

We are allowed to view Trek's world, but we are not a part of it. We are observers, we are not the weavers of the tapestry. When fans get that through their head they will have a much healthier relationship with Star Trek.

I respect Davey and CaptainX. They've been keeping the candle burning for a long time with Star Trek. Even if I'm totally in love with the new film, which I am, I understand where others could disagree, as long as they don't act like total assholes about it.

Sorry...your being too literal in your thinking.

I'm not talking about actually owing the franchise, I'm talking about how each of Us in Our own way relates to that which is Star Trek.

We each do own it, in Our own very special way...

It's how We interact with it and use it as Inspiration, or just Pure Entertainment, that defines how We Own It.

Sure there are some of Us are a bit fanatical about it, but most of Us are just Normal Folks that have great regard for this thing that is called Star Trek and therefore, feel in some small way... That We Own It.

Again, as I said above, there's nothing wrong with that, as long as each of Us remembers that everybody's special version is going to be different..., not wrong, just different.

I've seen every professional incarnation of Trek that is out there and have enjoyed all of them. (and own them in multiple formats)

I've also seen maybe thousands of Fan incarnations of Trek, from self-published stories and published books, to fan made movies and artwork.

I've enjoyed just about all of them in some way shape or form, just because I know that somebody with a love for Trek, put a lot of their time and effort into making it.

They haven't all been something that I would have thought of or would consider an actual part of the Trek Universe, but because I realize that TREK is that rare, special something that brings people together in a good way (except at times at a certain BBS with a large amount of anonymity ;)), I've enjoyed them for what they were...

Someones heartfelt expression of the thing that they love.
