Remember this?! Doesn't look so bad now does it???

Ironically, both of those look better than the weirdness that is the Abramsprise to me. At least that first one has a kind of old school feel to it thanks to the turrets. But really I would have bitched just as much had we gotten either one of those, ore even Gabe's version. But really the updated versions of the original I've seen floating around in the art forum are better in every way to one of these redesigns, including the Abramsprise.

I like the design a lot, it would work really well as an Enterprise-F or something. However, for the current movie I like the Enterprise they came up with for a 23rd century ship more. :)

How about these original designs for the TOS Enterprise?

I can't stand either of them but at least Vektor's Monsterprise gets the joke that it is supposed to be.

BTW, this ship does the Gundamprise one better: it was built underground, probably at the bottom of of mine shaft. The gravity of a planetary body and the increased air pressure are necessary to balance to transverse rectifubulating isodidecametric inducer coils.

One thing I like about looking at MJ's preliminary sketches is that there isn't a single one that makes me say "Hey, that would have been better than what we got!" (though some of his preliminary Klingon cruisers would have been a lot better than the flattened pieces of crap they came up with for TNG).

My favorite still is Gabe Koerner's and is it just me or did Church rip off a whole lot of design elements from Gabe?

No, he didn't.

I like Gabe as an animator and modelmaker, but his take on the Enterprise is nowhere near as attractive as Church's.
Well that's one hell of a matter of fact statement. How do you know?

The nacelles, deflector dish, dorsal section, bridge module and deflector dish are nearly identical to Koerner's.

Also, Church's Enterprise looks like dogshit. :)

No, it looks like a Michelangelo, just like "David"'s appendages it has slightly larger nacelles and saucer proportional to the secondary hull. It is a classic work of genius that will live on in the annals of sculpture and design. That's my opinion anyways. :)

:p

Any yes, there are enough similarities that Gabe himself has begun another redesign to avoid confusion between his ship and the Abramsprise. ;)

I mean seriously, how can one not at least think that Church ripped off Koerner.

I obviously don't have anything concrete to prove it other than MY OWN EYES but you have to be blind or delusional not to at least entertain the idea that Mr. Church was -- shall we say, "inspired?"-- by Koerner's work.

I don't see the similarities. The nacelles look a lot different in my opinion. The saucer section and bridge area looks more like the movie Enterprise's than Koerner's to me. The dishes look about as dissimilar as dishes can be, but hey, the original had a dish too, so what can you do? And, realistically, how many unique things can you really do that will keep to the original basic design, but not actually appear to "copy" from someone else?
