Just started DS9 from beginning. Which episodes should I SKIP?

I second Nerys Ghemor on 'Wrongs Darker than day or night' it was a great Kira/Dukat episode that really showcased the acting abilities of all concerned.
(My favorite is the drunken Legate).
I actually like 'the sound of her Voice' it was a well acted episode with some great character development and had a moving ending. Also Worf's line about Irish Wakes was spot on and appreciated.
 
I can handle just about any "bad" episode in any Trek incarnation because I can usually determine what the goal was supposed to be even if it was ruined by bad delievery, bad production, "looked better on paper", etc. So I can accept "Let He Who Is Without Sin" and "Melora"...

HOWEVER when an episode is totally pointless and builds on nothing that came before or lends itself to anything afterwards, then its hard to tolerate, so my award of most useless DS9 episode goes to (drumroll)

"Resurrection". I find nothing worthwhile in this piece of drek. It adds nothing to the mirror-universe story. MU Bareil's motivations are unbelievable as are the Intendants, and since they come into our universe, it does nothing to advance what is going on. What makes it even worse it that it occurs during the appex of all the Dominion War action and REALLY deflates things. I really have nothing good to say about this bottle-show episode.

The worst thing about Sanctuary was that the Skrreeans have never been heard or see again, and they would have made interesting allies for the Cardassians and the Dominion, because they had what the Skrreeans wanted, their promised homeworld - Bajor.

That storyline followed-up on would have made Sanctuary a very interesting ep.
 
While others clearly like it, the one episode that stands out to me as irredeemably awful and one that I tend to avoid is Wrongs Darker than Death Or Night.

The episode stretches the show's credibility beyond breaking point, characterisations are completely out of character, its plot conveniences massively damage the character of Kira (and Dukat to a lesser extent), and the entire episode plays out like gimmicky fan fiction.

In fact, with its huge dollops of melodrama, ludicrious reveals ('Oh Kira luv, I just called to say I used to shag your mother. What? Why didn't I (or anybody else) mention that six years ago?'), scarred beautiful women, and ham fisted bomb plots, it's the episode of DS9 Aaron Spelling would've written if he had the chance.
 
I'll put in a third vote for The Sound of Her Voice sucking.

I'd throw another much-beloved episode into the pyre: Children of Time. Never since City on the Edge of Forever (flame bait there...) has an episode hailed as a masterpiece bored me quite so completely. Maybe it's time travel that I hate, or rather that flawed, illogical and inconsistent vision of time travel that Trek has until recently shoved down our collective throats, but, seriously, with the exception of Old Odo, the episode is entirely disposable.

The Assignment, by contrast, is great. It also has the distinction of being, literally, the only good Pagh Wraith episode.

I'd also like to reiterate that Chrysalis, while flawed, is nevertheless pretty awesome.
 
Aww :(. That Q episode made me so happy. I was so excited when he showed up right before the opening credits. It's weaker than the TNG Q episodes, but still not bad. I love Q and seeing him again was a nice bit of nostalgia. Yeah, it's a little jarring seeing him without Picard, but his interactions with Vash and Sisko are still funny. I will admit, though, that episode is dragged down a bit by excessive technobabble, but Q is as entertaining as ever as far as I'm concerned (but I'm biased as a big fan of Q).
 
There are about three episodes in the whole series that i just cant sit through again ....But thats not bad in a seven season run.
 
just watched "The Forsaken" and "Dramatis Personae"

had to stop watching the forsaken halfway through. it was awful. watched dramatis personae in its entirety, but it was painful. o.k. bashir... here's what we're gonna do. we're gonna get everyone in the garage together. then we're gonna play a piercing noise. everyone is gonna overact. all this purple gas is gonna come out. then we'll have everyone hold onto the nearest canister and all the bad guys will get sucked out the garage door. sorta like Aliens meets a really stinky fart. the suction was very powerful.
 
Watched Duet and In the Hands of the Prophets tonight. Saw the latter when it first came out. Still just as good. Both were DS9 par excellence, the best of the show, but especially Duet. Brilliant. What stood out was the moral ambiguities throughout the show, the fact that either side or faction could be oppressor or opressed. Fascinating.
 
Okay, all the hype about "Duet" here has convinced me to give it another try. I didn't like a lot of season 1 and assumed it was one of the poor episodes since I can't remember anything about it, but maybe my memory of it has just been clouded by how much I disliked the season finale. Maybe watching it isolated from some of the other episodes around it will give me a new perspective on it.
 
I would say it is basically science fiction...

An allegory, that uses a futuristic scenario as background, exploring an aspect of the human condition...
 
no, it might be SET in sci-fi, but the story and execution of it is pure drama. hence why it works the way it does. Marritza can be anyone, he doesn't have to be Cardassian.

but then again, all good sci fi is drama ;)
