We've got a Sequel!

This really isn't something that would be April 1-worthy.

Saying Brett Ratner is taking over the Batman franchise with Edward Furlong in the lead role, or that Uwe Boll is retiring from making his so-called movies, that would be April 1-worthy.

Star Trek, Too Brash.

Well, it's all way too early to tell without having even seen the movie. I tell you what, this is a marketing ploy... telegraphing the idea that "this movie is so great, we've got to get started on a sequel right away!" If it adds just one more million to the box office tally, it did the job.

Yet this news really means nothing. So, a couple of guys are going to plot out the next screenplay... then take audience reaction on the first movie to improve upon it... Like Basil said, they could easily shelve the idea. Thus, jumping for joy about this news is really unfounded. But jump if you must... just be careful of that cliff edge.

Well it was inevitable that this would be floated around. Shatner to appear in Star Trek sequel.

A source tells Britain's Daily Express newspaper, "It's well known Bill was disappointed not to get a cameo (in the 2009 film). But now Paramount Pictures has been given the go-ahead for a sequel and there are hopes he'll make a brief appearance."

Well, since this one is going to have helmsmen posing as ninjas, they better up the stakes and have sharks with freakin' lasers.

I'm just sayin.

Cameo: a small theatrical role usually performed by a well-known actor and often limited to a single scene.

What could they really do with him? If he doesn't appear as James Kirk but instead as someone else, it'll be a "ho-hum, OK--it's Shatner" kind of deal. If he does appear as "older Kirk", one has to question just how wacky the temporal stretching is going to go in this one. We certainly are getting enough information to know that this movie hinges on a major time traveling premise. Two in a row... it starts to wear really thin.

#12 should center around a Klingon attempt to start a war on the Federation. An invasion or something. Make the Empire the super badass of the TREK universe again after years and years of other species usurping their old title.

They could always do a Deadly Years remake and just bring in Shatner instead of Chris Pine in makeup. :techman:

Shatner in the tighter TOS-style shirts? There's a scary thought in this day and age.

Because we know Star Trek is all about war.

Well, of course it's not about war! It's about humanity pissing off the rest of the galaxy to the point of a conflict, but in the end always finding a way to shy just away from all out war! ;)

I thought Star Trek was butting in on the lives of alien humanoids who are currently dealing with something that's 100% identical to some aspect of human history, telling them what to do and how to live their lives, and then leaving without thinking twice about the aftermath.
