We've got a Sequel!

But...but...but...

"These guys don't have a clue what they're doing!"

:guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

This is like greenlighting Transformers II when Transformers wasn't out yet. And we all know how much of a bomb Transformers was.
[sarcasm aside for a moment]...technically, Star Trek XII has not yet been officially greenlit. The studio has only odered a script.

I would be very pleased if Trek made Transformers numbers--hope the April 6 (?) advance premiere in Sydney generates great buzz!

Do you really think that the studio will kill this incarnation if their script isn't up to snuff? Nah. Paramount knows this is going to make money so they're going to milk this for all it's worth and give us another Trek in 2-3 years.

And a series by Fuller, who has infused Heroes with new life. So that series won't be pushing daisies anytime soon.

Indeed let's do a remake of Khan!! Except in this version, since Khan and Kirk never met, Khan will just be senile and think that they met before. "I never forget a face!!!!!"

I don't see why the whole world wouldn't want to see that.

Antonio Banderas for Khan!

Re: a Sequel!

the studio is moving forward with a sequel
The studio hired a screenwriter and JJ Abrahams will co-produce (not direct, at the moment).

the Variety article shows the timeline.

would likely be a summer 2011 release.
Once the box office results are in for the first 2 weeks we'll see if a TV series is also in the works...

I really hope there isn't a tv series. Must there always be a tv series? There's already 28 seasons worth of Trek on tv... how much is enough?

No, I don't. I'm 97.5% sure we will see sequels. I'm just pointing out that Paramount has not committed itself (and lots of money) to a sequel -- just a script.

I suppose on the far-flung possibility that this film totally bombs at the box-office "Heaven's Gate-style", Paramount could pull the plug on the sequel without owing any reparation (except any fees for the script).

Excellent news!

My storyline request is: No TOS Story Rehashes!

Sure there are plenty of good story's to revisit, a couple even have literally Earth shattering potential, (DDM) but come on, we been there, done that!

Originality is the key here. The new story must take us where we've never gone before or it should not be done at all. However, little nods to known material thrown in here and there among the new could work well.

The title: WNMHGB would be a great idea as long is it delivers on it's implied promise.

I want a Star Trek 12: So Very Tired forum, and I want it *now*!

I'm finding it really strange that Paramount has so much confidence about this film - greenlighting a sequel, setting up countless promotional tie-ins and new products. It's like a bloody blockbuster or something. I suppose it's odd as my only experiences of Trek on the silver screen have been Insurrection and Nemesis...

I agree. Star Trek Also needs to be an original story. Doesn't anyone remember what happened last time a TV episode was inflated into a movie? We got to watch Sulu watch some uninteresting special effects.

No, please leave the TOS I know and love alone. I don't think we need anyone to "re-imagine" good television.

It seems TPTB are as impatient about a sequel as this forum. ;) So the discussion about the title of the sequel wasn't that premature, after all...
