Second Guest Star For Tennant's Finale Confirmed! (Big spoiler)

...forgive me for not leaping for joy at the idea that now one of the only redeeming parts of "Journey's End" seems to be heading for a similar path to oblivion.

See that's the mistake right there. Donna's story was never over. There was absolutely no way that Russell T Davies (of all people) was planning on consigning her to such an awful fate forever. It would go against everything he believes about the message the series should be sending and the effect that travelling with the Doctor should have on people.

In fact I’d be utterly amazed if Catherine Tate’s contract to return at the end of the Specials was not signed, sealed and delivered before Series Four had even finished shooting. (Purely because she’s such a busy person that they’d need to make sure she’d be available when they needed her.)

I tend to agree. That's the overriding message of Doctor Who: hope. Even when the Doctor himself dies, you aren't sad for long*, because he's immediately reborn.

*unless he's just turned into Colin Baker.

Oh, who am I kidding. That fat, crazy Welsh bastard is going to piss all over one of the few truly great things he's done since the first season.

As a fat, crazy Welsh bastard myself, I'm inclined to believe you'll be proven right, as much as it pains me to admit it.

Go on then, someone. Accuse me of being a "non-fan".

I'll accuse you of being under the mistaken impression that what happened at the end of Series 4 was ever intended to realy be the end of Donna's story, if that helps?

Did people get annoyed when Tegan returned in 'Arc Of Infinity' after her story was "finished" in 'Time Flight'? (Not including those people who didn't like the character and were just glad she'd gone, obviously.)

No, but that doesn't mean I don't think the inevitable return of memory-restored Donna, along with the SECOND return of supposedly-gone-forever Rose, will be a bit of a shit idea.

I've come to expect a certain pattern from RTD finales. I'll fucking love it until the last 20 minutes, I'm sure.

No evidence so far that that's happening. And given that she's shooting the third series of SDOACG in London at the moment and bringing up a baby I don't see that she's going to have the time to do anything. (Unless they're going to have a Davison-style "spinning heads" regeneration.)

I don't have a problem with Colin, but still.... :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

In those 20 minutes the doctor will be bombarded by "MURRAY GOLD!!!! MURRAY GOLD!" music and the massive CGI army descends on the planet

I thought that was the Brigadier at first...

So I guess that means Donna is going to show up.
I don't see why Donna would be back. After all, the Doctor warned Wilf and Donna's mother that she cannot be reminded of her time with the Doctor or else she would die.

The Doctor may have sought the aid of Wilf as he knows Wilf is a good man who would love a good adventure.

One of the basic staples of any form of drama is saying something can never happen than having it happen.

Anyway, just stick her through the Chameleon Arch without programming in a false personality and she'll be right as rain.

I'm not terribly excited about this. I really love Wilf. However, I don't subscribe to the idea that Donna's story wasn't over. Not every ending is painless and fulfilling. Sometimes, like life, it just doesn't work out. That's Donna's story. That's reality and truth, far more than any other theme Doctor Who has explored. To undue it would simply be mediocre hack writing on par with a daytime soap opera. But, I'll wait and pass real judgement once I've seen it. I might be proven wrong. I somehow doubt it, though...

Like having a certain blond be gone forever and then returning one season later.

"I love you!!"

"Quite right..."

Surely the only person that gets to decide when the real ending (as opposed to the assumed ending) of her story is is Mr Davies?

He's always been very clear that his vision for series is a hopeful one; that he doesn't believe in giving stories ultimately unhappy endings ('Midnight' is really the only one that breaks that rule), that he doesn't believe that 'darker' means better and that travelling with the Doctor makes your life better and makes you a better person.

In short he's not Ron Moore, nor does he have any desire to be him.

Oh, Christ, I hadn't thought of that until now. I fully expect him to throw subtlety and restraint out the window in exchange for "DAAAAA DAAAAA DAAAAAAA CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS MOTHERFUCKERS DAAAA DAAAAA DAAA DAAAAAAAA THIS IS MOTHERFUCKING DOCTOR WHO DAAAAA DAAAA DAAAAAAAAAAAAA DAAAA DAAAAAAAA DAAAAA DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AND I AM MOTHERFUCKING MURRAY GOLD!"
