Spoiler! DONT HATE ME! I liked FC

I know how much passion has gone into the debate over Admiral Janeway's death. I would never recommend you read Before Dishonor unless you are mostly interested in the storyline; and I am a fan of Peter David, who I think did admirably with the horrible task he was given.

But if you are interested in hope do give Full Circle a glance. It is long but satisfying. It won't bring her back but it does flesh out so much and does send Voyager back to the Delta Quad - albeit with many diff personnel.

It'll be like finally getting to know the people in the other building you never had a chnce to.

And it gave very well done add'l lines about Kim and Torres/Paris. I enjoyed it very much in spite of Janeway's death and it left me feeling like there was something great to look forward to that Janeway had begun.

And for what it's worth, the death scene in BD is not the gleeful killling rampage some make it out to be - death is death and is even more terrible in that it is someone we love - but I can't help but feel some people are coloring their description of the event with thier own spite. Shame on them.

Hate me or hate me, but I still consider myself a Voyager fan and I think the book is quite an accomplishment and worthy of the read.

^^
I don't hate you or your opinions in this matter but, as I've stated before "Full Circle" and the current development of the Voyager stories are nothing for me.

I've been told that the book got some great interaction between the remaining characters, not to mention "Character development "as well (now, what that means?). But when all that is built on the death of the main character of the series, then you can count me out from further reading of the "Voyager relaunch".

I've seen some other disturbing signs and read some other disturbing rumors about the relaunch as well but I won't go into that now.

Course I don't hate you, silly!

But your preferences aren't mine, and what you like won't necessarily be the same as what I like. We have very different opinions about BD, for instance, and I won't be reading FC. I just don't care much for it. Nice that you enjoyed it though. :)

I never saw the death scene in BD as a "gleeful rampage". I saw it as just another bad scene in a horrible book by an author who should stick to writing comic books.

I'm planning on reading Full Circle though.

I don't hate you either. I enjoyed BD a lot; I thought it was better than a great many Trek episodes. I'm grateful that PD didn't just stick to comics; his New Frontier series is a favorite of mine, and from what I've heard, his 'Imzadi' is spectacular (I just bought it and hope to get to that later this year). I wasn't one of those people that jumped up and down in joy that Janeway was killed; I found her death extremely moving, and well depicted - she saved the world with her last breath. For the record, I doubt that Janeway will be dead for long, no matter what the writers say; Kirk & Sisko both came back in the books - though I'm hoping they follow the Sisko return pattern rather than Kirk's. With Kirk he was back in the space of 1 book and it felt cheap, pointless, and kind of lame - which turned me off of the Shatnerverse. With Sisko we had an entire season of stories before Sisko returned, and even then he was changed by his experiences (as were the people he'd left behind, which I think was the point) - and he came back at exactly the right time - and now all his scenes in the novels have a heightened sense of importance, at least to me. If Janeway came back in such a way, that would be fine with me, but if she never comes back, I'll still be a fan of the continuing adventures. I already have my copy of FC, but I'm waiting on reading it for a few months at least, as I'm reading other things at the moment, and I'd also like to read "Pathways" and the previous 4 Relaunch titles first.

I hate you for having FC when Amazon has delayed my ship date. Again. :)

neogothboy, if you like PAD's work, you should get find an old copy of Q-in-Law. It's worth it just for the Worf one-liner. Also, where did you get your copy of FC? I'm not too far from A2, and the three nearest bookstores to me didn't have it on the weekend.

I have a copy of Q-in-Law as well (got it at the same time as "Imzadi" & "Q-Squared") and I plan on reading them soon, as more often than not I've loved his writing. The only book of his that I haven't loved was "Triangle: Imzadi II" (which I figured was ok to read without having read the first one based on what others had said about it) - it had some good ideas, but was just horribly done; I don't know what happened there.

I got my copy of FC from Amazon, but I pre-ordered my copy last July, so maybe it was a first come, first serve kind of deal? I preorder all the Trek titles that I want and they just arrive at my door. Sometimes even when I order them in advance they'll arrive days after they should have, and weeks after other readers are posting reviews, but this time I lucked out - only I don't have the time to read this one right away. lol Ironic, I suppose.

Same here. A dead Janeway just isn't my cup of coffee. Besides, I have lots to read especially now that my book budget won't be taken up with Trek books. I just finished "Year of Wonders" and will be starting "White Tiger". However, since both can be downers (plague in England and social injustice in India) I'm taking a break with "Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife" - a sexy continuation of "Price and Prejudice".

BTW, all of the above was purchased brand new in a bookstore. Take that Pocket. :p ;)

I like how you think Kim, right now I am reading "The Warlord's Daughter" by Susan Grant. It is the sequel to her "Moonstruck", I'd recommend "Moonstruck" to anyone that reads and enjoys J/C. You could almost change the hero and heroine's name to Kathryn and Chakotay. The book by the way has been nominated for a Rita award as best paranormal romance published this year.

The heroine Admiral Brit (Stoneheart) Bandar is where my nick came from.

I'm not interested in Voyager with different personnel. I don't want to get to know the people in the next building. I want adventures with the original crew and their Captain/Admiral. If they had to kill off Janeway, a few more good adventures would have been nice first.

From what I've read, Full Circle was originally two books. Too bad it wasn't. I could have at least read one of them. I could have enjoyed Janeway's final adventure without having to face her death. Now I have a choice to make.

In the meantime, I'm reading Twilight, then I will try Moonstruck. Perhaps I've simply been looking in the wrong place for my entertainment and it's time to move on.

I probably will read it, but I dont intend to buy it-the library will work fine for me. I am curious to see how KB brings J and C together. Is it possible to skip the dead KJ bits?:p

I am afraid the shippers won't be very happy - it delves into Chakotay's mourning - he's rather a mess - and there's precious little juicy - but a lot of lovely victorian longing in the noblest of ways - a constant reminder of how Janeway shaped him et al.

I'm not sure it's possible to skip the parts about her being dead in the second half of the book - it might work to read the first half which centers around B'Elanna, Tom, Miral and Kim. Some other characters who were new to me - Capt'n Eden and Adm'l Batiste are introduced/fleshed out - if they are in other treklit I haven't encountered them before.

I miss Tuvok too, he's thought dead or MIA in part of the book and prisoner in a Romulan prison in other parts, I believe. He is told of Janeway's death by Deanna Troi who I liked on TOS but am developing an attitude about her and her hubs Riker - who I never kenned to - especially after the Enterprise fiasco of TATV(These Are The Voyages- season finale). Tuvok is serving on Riker's ship the Titan - a series I don't think I am interested in except for the presence of Troi and now Tuvok. Troi for me is like having a girlfriend you adore who is married to Satan.

A lot is going on in the rest of the TrekVerse so I am going to try to catch up on the other stuff out there like the Singular Destiny arc and see where or how this all fits in.

Thanks all for your responses - I admire your passion and appreciate your graciouosness.

Yucko. There was enough of that in the show thankyouverymuch.

** Off to read some steamy fanfic **

I don't hate you because I am enjoying FC right now. I wish I could just sit down and read it cover to cover, but Real Life keeps getting in the way.

I'm only on chapter 10 but so far so good.

Why wouldn't I enjoy it? I personally like real raw emotions in good or bad. Sugar-coated things aren't for me. And I love the idea of Chakotay finally being written with some depth.

So I am looking forward reading this. *waits the book, which has been sent on my way from NYC last Saturday*

Like the rest I definitely won't ever hate you for having an opinion. You're fully entitled to like the book, however, it wouldn't make much sense for me to waste money on it and then only read half so I'm definitely going to skip it.

Besides I haven't heard or seen anything so far in regard to spoilers that makes me even remotely want to buy and read it.

I simply have zero interest in the direction Pocket Books has decided to take.

Edit:
Not to mention that I consider buying the book to be equal to supporting said decision. Maybe not in spirit, but it does increase Pocket Books' sales and thereby their idea that killing her was acceptable, and to me it just isn't.

I too bought a few books the other way, but I stayed in the crime section. However, I fully intend to catch up on Twilligt since I've now heard so much good from so many people. :)

Edit, edit...damn I cant spell today. *rolls eyes*

I can only agree with you here.

I'm not interested in reading about Janeway's death, in fact I refuse to accept it.

I'm not interested to read about Chakotay's mourning and about tear-filled memories of Janeway. That whole scenario makes me wanna puke.

I'm not interested in any way to support the current direction of Pocket Books because it's the total opposite of what I want of the Voyager Relaunch.

And I don't want my money to end upp with those who made the decision to kill off Janeway and I don't want to participate in raising the ratings for how much the book sells, thuse giving an impression that people are happy with the current direction.

Therefore I will not buy any Star Trek books until Janeway is brought back and some things in the books are changed to the better.

As for books, I have a lot of interests outside Star Trek which I can read about.

And I still have the Voyager books from seasons 1-3 to read and if I find it necessary to read a new story, set after "Endgame", well then I can write one myself!

I got my copy today!

So off I go! I have some reading to do! :D
