^ On the other hand, I also like baseball. Maybe that's why Sisko comes into it now and then. ;)

I'm a science person and I voted Janeway, too. Nice hypothesis there!

    Woot!

I'm usually debating between Picard and Sisko.

I've also got a fondness for Creole cooking. And jazz. :)

    Mmmmmm.

Now I'm thinking I need to hit that little Creole joint on the way home. It's supposed to be foggy tonight... Sounds like a gumbo night. :)

Not me, I'm more of an engineer/builder type and I voted Sisko. I think the chart goes something like this:

    Kirk - The soldier
    Picard - The diplomat
    Sisko - The builder
    Janeway - The scientist
    Archer - The... gazelle?

I'd say that's a very good evaluation. Particularly for Archer. :p

Seriously, what the hell would you call him? Maybe a pilot, since he was a test pilot for the NX program or somesuch that apparently warranted getting command of the first NX ship despite no apparent command experience on any other ship.

Most of the votes for Janeway have more to do with her gender than her mental capabilities. Thus its refreshing to see that someone has a legitimate reason.

    WTF? How incredibly insulting.

Many times on this board, the issue of gender discrimination/sexism has been brought up, and shot down immediately. Yet here's another prime example of it.

Many of Janeway's fans are women. I voted for Janeway for a myriad of reasons. I am capable of critical thinking and other higher forms of rational thought. Janeway's importance to me, and I would bet 'most' who like her, is based on more than *just* the fact that she is a woman.

If that is what you are trying to say, I agree with you.

But, if whether or not you see my reasons as 'legitimate' has any relation to her gender, and possibly how it relates to my gender, then I'm insulted.

I voted for Kirk in a toss-up with Picard, primarily because 1) I'm from the 70s and Kirk is the standard by which all others are measured and 2) in a pinch I still think he's the most likely to get my keister home if I served in Starfleet.

But Octavia is right. I admire and most closely identify with Picard. And he's definitely the one I'd most want to hang out with (with Janeway a close second) because he's most like me - analytical and intellectual with a fascination for history and cultures; more cautious; giving people the benefit of the doubt; perceived as somewhat aloof but actually deeply involved in the lives of his crew. I'm definitely a JLP kind of guy. Just not as "together."

On the gender topic: Look, if I were going to go simply by what my Y chromosme told me, I'd have voted for Janeway because I find Kate Mulgrew very attractive. Yeah, you heard me. But I sure as heck didn't vote against her because I'm a guy. She comes in fourth in an extremely close race, edged by Sisko.

If your voting is in anyway based on her gender then you are not voting along a legitimate line. This thread is not about "which captain looks like me." See I've noticed that the obsessive nature of many Janeway fans is derrived almost exclusively from the fact that she is a woman. They can ignore the fact that she was inconsistenly written and often made less than rational decisions. All of that is irrelevant for some because she has a XX chromosome.

I am a black male and I can say with confidence that my vote for The Sisko had absolutely nothing to do with ethnicity. In fact my favorite captain is Chris Pike (who is never included in these polls  ).

On a side note, I am facinated that Archer got seven votes. I'd be curious to know why people voted for him. From my perspective, no matter how much one might like Enterprise, you cannot escape the fact that he was written BADLY.
