But Janeway can't win. It says, best captain with poll, and she hasn't got one!

The show ran seven years.
Amazingly, yes it did. But it wouldn't have had TNG and DS9 not set that precedent.
As I have understood, it was amazing that DS9 had seven years, too.

Today isn't April Fool's Day? It's not until next month...![]()
During part of the production of this season the producers were not sure if DS9 would have a seventh season and were prepared to tie up the series at its conclusion. However, DS9 had always been assured that it would have at least six seasons.

From Memory Alpha:
During part of the production of this season the producers were not sure if DS9 would have a seventh season and were prepared to tie up the series at its conclusion. However, DS9 had always been assured that it would have at least six seasons.
So I guess it wasn't all blue skies in the DS9 camp either.
There is nothing wrong with it, but it is highly unusual for anyone to go to such lengths. I could go to the DS9 board on this very bbs and start a thread asking for DS9 fans to come here and vote for The Sisko and I could probably get around five additional votes for him putting him in the lead, but why would I? It is very silly, I half expect a British general to walk into this thread and start waving a stick about. So what? Post this poll on DS9 or TNG boards and get fans to sign up if you don't like Janeway winning. It turns out that the poll was posted on some Voyager board and around 20 militant Janeway fans signed up here in order to vote for her.
First off, Benjamin Sisko is the best captain for these reasons:
1) He is on the frontline of the Dominion War.
2) A messiah-like figure to an alien religion.
3) He trapped the Pah-wraith in the Bajoran Fire Caves.
4) He has a better backstory than the other captains.
Now who do you think is the best captain.
Captain Pike is deeply offended by this thread:

I loved the idea of a science ship - which was what Voyager really was - with a scientist at the helm. And I loved that they stopped to investigate nebulas and supernovas that were new and exciting! It's what any geek would do. Much as I love Picard, I'm sure he would have only stopped to watch the same on sufferance.
Science is exciting. Any captain who doesn't get that is ultimately not the captain for me.
Thinking this way, it makes sense that I prefer Picard. He's interested in the "human" sciences--anthropology, archeology. He's a diplomat. It's people that fascinate him.
That's me, too.![]()
